Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSo I have been undecided since Harris dropped. Nina Turner flipped me
California voter. Voted for Bernie in the 2016 primary. Mainly to push Clinton further left. As of 12 hours ago I was going with my heart and Warren. This morning Turner got on MSNBC and was straight up obnoxious. So she converted me. To a Biden supporter. Never had him above three, at best, of my choices. Time to unite.
Message to Turner, best not to belittle other Dems. For the last four years I have to get up and see an obnoxious asshole on my TV. I dont want to hear him nor you for the next four years.
Off to update my choice.

Besides voting for the person who can beat Trump, there's who they'll bring with them into their administrations. That has to also be considered. Then there are the downballot races we need to protect.

(3,417 posts)I also voted Bernie in the California primary in 2016, also to push HRC further left. I, too, planned to vote Warren in the primary this year because her positions are closest to mine and she is amazing. I cant quite let go of that idea. However, Im wavering.
I vote in New Mexico now. Our primary is in June. Im going to see how things look then. It will be Warren or Biden for me.

(1,107 posts)but if Joe will work to gracefully hand off the mantle of power to the generations behind we, the Boomers, than I can get behind him. The way he's interacting with Pete, Kamala, and Beto gives me hope that he will empower them and put them in places of power.
This is what needs to happen, we Boomers have had our time, it's time to bring the generations behind us into the fold and if Joe will do that I'm okay with Joe.

(5 posts)...but I think it may not be the time for a woman to win.
Hopefully it soon will be.
I agree with you about Joe. He wasn't my top pick, but I'm hoping that he'll pick a VP who will add some progressive ideas to his candidacy (and, hopefully, someone a bit younger who will be able to follow after him). I wish he was a bit more progressive, but I think he's willing to be flexible, so there's hope.
As for Bernie, he can be nasty: "You don't have the microphone, so shut up!" - which is not something I really want in a President. In addition, I am concerned about his health problems, and his being a bit too far left.
Bloomberg has some good ideas, and has been successful at doing some positive things in NY. But I don't feel comfortable with voting for a person who decided to bypass monetary support from the people and only use his own money for his campaign. It makes me feel like he's trying to buy the Presidency.
So, later today, it looks like I'll be voting for Biden! (I really hadn't totally decided until after I read this thread and I was about to write this post.)

Like tRump she is obnoxious and annoying. So rather than congratulating Biden and moving on she had to be snarky and stated congrats to Joe for winning his first Primary EVER.
Her attitude convinced me that team Bernie doesn't have a fucking clue what it will take to eliminate tRump. If America is going to vote for loud mouthed, obnoxious assholes, they will go with the Republicans.

(20,709 posts)attacking Nina Turner is attacking a Dem. There's no ambiguity there.
And don't worry, I'm voting for whoever the nominee is against Trump. But if we want to be united as a party against Trump, then attacking other Dems, or their supporters, is probably not a great idea.

(47,940 posts)At this point, his policies don't matter to me. I'm just sick of being insulted, and he did it himself yesterday by telling me I was part of an establishment plot against him. So, don't tell me it's only some of his supporters.
Of course, I'll vote for him if he gets the nomination, but until then, I'll do what I can to make someone else the nominee because if he can alienate me so thoroughly, he can do it to large segments of the voting population.

(11,213 posts)but he cannot deliver on any of them - none. He lacks the skill to make things happen.
And we must worry that Turner is the type of person he will call on to fill his cabinet and will make up the bulk of his appointees if he elected. We don't need to trade sycophants and attack dogs from the left for trump's sycophants and attack dogs.

(2,851 posts)Nina Turner has been exasperating and infuriating me since the run-up to 2016. I used to respect this woman. Back during the W years, she was one of the loudest proponents of state workers' union rights. I wasn't surprised that she would have backed Sanders, but the manner in which she browbeats other Dems has been out of control. She acts like a rabid forest creature. Every time I see her I can't help but think of a honey badger FFS.

(31 posts)Crowing about his first primary victory in 32 years of Presidential campaigning on Saturday, Joe felt like jabbing those who are not "real Democrats" because they are more progressive than he is. And there he was parroting Republican talking points about "taxes" as the worst evil, and how we can't afford government programs to help the American people.
I am sure Biden imagined he was skewing Bernie, but to me it sounded like he was spitting in the face of every Democratic in the progressive wing of the party -- as well as all the political independents that are drawn to vote for a Democratic candidate based on their values and policies (not because of the household they were born into). I was personally offended.
All these tone deaf posts about how "uppity" Biden supporters find a particular black woman to be don't help either.
I came into this election supporting Warren, but feeling we had a great field of candidates. I would have included Biden in that. I don't any longer. If the party donors succeed in coronating him, he will have my reluctant vote. But not my time or money. (I'll refocus that on defeating Susan Collins.)
I wish I could count on Biden and his supporters to do the same if Sanders secures the nomination. But from everything I am reading here, they are an entitled bunch who feel their candidate "deserves" the nomination, regardless of what the voters think. That is exactly what went wrong with Hillary. I hope Sanders and/or Warren can save us from a repeat of that fiasco.

(8,419 posts)And I didnt imply she was uppity. I stated she came across as obnoxious. Abrasive might have been a better choice of words.
We have a huge media issue in our Country. So if someone comes in and is going to push for change then they had damn well better be able to sell it.
A Democrat using the tRump approach will be skewered by the press. So at some point we need to look at reality. Every morning I have Stephanie Ruhle on before work. She was brought in for a reason. This morning she had a five plus love fest with Judge Judy. Basically a commercial for Bloomberg. JJ went the socialist and Venezuela route. To my surprise Ruhle actually corrected her. Point being, even the most liberal station is going to be biased. And having abrasive resources from our side is going to make it worse.
