Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWho could have guessed that "shut up and get out of the race, you snake!" wouldn't work?
The #1 trend on twitter for most of yesterday was #WarrenEndorseBernie.
And if you read the posts with that hashtag, you saw a shit-ton of tweeters yelling at Liz Warren to get out of the race to help Bernie. And they did so by calling her names and questioning her bonafides as a progressive and all kinds of nasty stuff.
In contrast, when moderates were asking Pete and Amy to drop out of the race, there was no vitriol. Just gentle requests for them to look at the math and come to the obvious conclusion. No name-calling, no harassing, no immaturity.
"You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar" is an old cliche, but it is undoubtedly true here.

(151,264 posts)after today's primary elections. She will do OK in a couple of states, but won't be viable in the rest. I think that Mike Bloomberg will do the same thing on Wednesday or Thursday.
Then, we will be in a two-person primary race. Supporters of candidates other than those two will have to make a choice in future primary elections. And they will.

(151,264 posts)That would be my guess. She'll let her supporters decide for themselves.
On the other hand, Mike Bloomberg will almost certainly endorse Biden. He doesn't much like Bernie Sanders. I don't know how Bloomberg will do in today's elections. It will be interesting to see the results.

She may choose to not endorse anyone, but she will not endorse Sanders.

(13,005 posts)The location of the embassy can't be left to the parties involved, because at the moment, those parties will not agree, so if we want to have an embassy there, we can't leave the decision as to where it will be to the Israelis and the Palestinians. Hers was not an answer to the question of whether she would leave the embassy in Jerusalem or move it back to Tel Aviv.

(113,954 posts)frankly, overtly abusive (nasty?) as Nina Turner, of course, at least a minority of the supporters are going to emulate.
Sirota has been scarcely better, but for whatever reason doesn't end up on tv as much. Briahna Joy Gray is a close second on the obnoxious scale

(53,214 posts)letting such a spokesperson for on TV again and again. Actually you have to question his judgement hiring her in the first place. What role would she play in a Sanders administration?

What kind of a strategic advisor do you need to tell you this is not a winning approach? A game theorist? A stable genius specializing in public relations? The author of "How to Make Friends and Influence People"?
Most children could have warned them the results of this tactic for free.

Yes, I was reading the posts here. You'd be hard pressed to find an Biden supporters who were calling Pete and Amy names or being offensive.

(509 posts)That's not what was happening, though. It was belittling, name-calling, attacking.
Merely "asking" isn't an issue. But, at least on twitter, Bernie supporters were attacking and name-calling and yelling at Warren. Juvenile LACK OF RESPECT.
There's a difference.

(28,836 posts)I did see one campaign's supporters calling Pete a rat, but it wasn't the supporters of any of the "moderate" Democrats. Care to guess who they were supporting?
Over on that other "progressive" site, they've been calling Warren the "C" word.
Seen anyone do that with Pete or Amy?

(53,214 posts)Wanting some candidates to drop out was only because they didn't have enough delegates to be viable and we need to rally around the one(s) who could win. Biden voters have been very supportive and appreciative of Pete and Amy.

(25,586 posts)Who is currently driving the hashtag #pocahantas on Twitter? Who uses a snake emoji to represent Warren and a rat emoji to represent Buttigieg? What campaigns supporters use #bendtheknee?
None of that shit came from anybody but Sanders fans. Point out a particularly vituperative post on DU aimed at Pete from a Biden or Warren person. Or one aimed at Warren from a Biden or Buttigieg person. Im very curious about what you consider to be vitriol.

(20,709 posts)It was always a myth that Bernie supporters were uniquely rude on the internet. The establishment pushed that myth because they didn't want Bernie to be president. Which, OK, politics is politics.
But seeing that the real enemy is Trump, not random people on the internet who support Bernie, it's probably a good idea to let that myth die now that Joe is likely to be the nominee. We need those so-called "Bernie Bros" to vote for us.

(509 posts)But anti-Bernie hashtags with sentiments like that seldom ever are "trending" on twitter. Because the number of people doing that is very, very small.
When abusive anti-Warren hashtags are trending, it is because thousands of people are doing that.

(20,709 posts)That's why there are stories about "Bernie Bros" but not "Biden Bros". There are just as many abusive anti-Bernie posters on twitter as anyone else. It's just that the media decides to ignore them because it doesn't fit their narrative.

(509 posts)The fact that anti-Bernie hashtags are almost never trending shows that the numbers are small. Or at least that the opposition to Bernie isn't any organized effort.

(20,709 posts)#WarrenEndorseBernie, by the way, is not an abusive hashtag. It's just calling for one progressive to endorse another.
The idea that Bernie people on twitter are uniquely abusive, again, is pure myth, pushed by the media. It is not based in reality.
Pushing myths that insult millions of Bernie supporters might be a good strategy for the primary, but it is most definitely not a good strategy for defeating Trump. Biden looks pretty much assured to be the nominee right now. There is no reason whatsoever to continue the "Bernie Bro" myth.

(181 posts)What ever twitter says must be taken with a grain of salt. Twitter is where all of the worst and rudest people post. Its just true. Facebook is where the grandmas go, thats just how they work. I stagram is where the decent people seek refuge. Of course they have accounts on other platforms, but insta is where people discuss things and have fun with debates.
It is true that there are many Bernie supporters that are harsh, but remember the rule of thumb about twitter.
