Democratic Primaries

Neither will have a chance to be the nominee.
But they also know the odds are strong that nobody gets the nomination on first vote. And they want to wring concessions out of either Bernie or Joe in order to turn over their delegates and put one of them "over the top".
And that's completely understandable. Both would want platform changes and perhaps a say in cabinet makeup.
Negotiations will start long before the convention, and one of them will pledge enough delegates to one of the top two to put them over the top before the convention happens.

I, for one, am thankful they will be spending money until November attacking Trump on behalf of the Democratic nominee.
But Bloomberg, if he doesn't know yet, will know after today that he has no shot to be the nominee.

I'm sure lots of "consultants" told him he couldn't be mayor of NYC for 3 terms also.

If it comes down to Biden and Sanders, it's going to take a lot of negotiating and deal making for Sanders to become the nominee. Remember, the 771 super delegates vote on the second ballot, and no doubt 75+% of them will vote for Biden. He's already got the endorsement of 10% of them, about three times those of Bloomberg (surprisingly in second place) and Sanders. And that's before some of the committed delegates endorse Biden - Buttigieg and Klobuchar have 23 combined.

(71,542 posts)On the first or second vote either Sanders or Biden will be the nominee...and I think it will be known in advance and planned...we don't want a real brokered convention as it would mean general election doom. We have never won an election where there was a brokered convention.

(10,909 posts)Joe won't need either of them.
He can get enough delegates from Amy, Pete, his own plus 79% of the super delegates (of which he already has a number).
Even if he's short, he can play Warren off against Bloomberg to cut the best deal. Or go after their individual delegates after the first round of voting.
We have to see how the vote turns out. But if it has swung as much as Nate seems to think it has, their king making would seem rather limited.

caused a lot of trouble and often died young. I support Elizabeth Warren and trust her to choose the positive type of King/Queen we need and deserve,
