Steve Schmidt just captured the zeitgeist of it all in one sentence:

If it is Biden vs Trump, the election is simply

"Good man vs Bad man".

That's easy to sell, easy to sloganeer. Easy to win.

The overwhelming majority of America is experiencing Trump fatigue. Running as "Good man vs Bad man" works.

Americans know the inherent goodness of Joe Biden. They know he will hire patriots to run government agencies. They know he's not evil.

And that's really all that the majority of an exhausted nation wants.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Because the days of holding hands and Kumbaya and being a uniter not a divider are firmly in the past. I know it’s in his heart and I know he’s a good man but if he wins this nomination I hope he can fight like hell for years, real hardball, because that’s what it’s gonna take to get this country back on track.

We're not that exhausted. We don't want to replace the massive RW destruction with destructive LW revolution, but we do really want and expect whoever's elected to use the need to rebuild as an opportunity to rebuild for today.

Biden knows that, of course, and he undoubtedly does also. Why else would he want iconoclastic Elizabeth Warren for his "assistant president"/VP if he ran in 2015? And she'd only agree to that if they agreed on some big goals she could be assigned to help make happen.

The issues are far more nuanced. Without substantive change for most people, we will end up with someone even worse than Trump, four or eight years from now. One of things Biden needs to do if he wins is punish Trump. I mean, a thorough reckoning of all his crimes and legislation to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Minimum. No of this “looking forward, not back” nonsense, not this time.
