(17,235 posts)Compensating their descendants is absurd. Making THIS part of an election platform is even more absurd imo.

(17,235 posts)while the rest fight for the crumbs. Reparations won't fix the core problem of wealth transfer to the wealthiest. THAT is the actual problem that leaves many Americans in poverty.

(29,579 posts)Then again, you could read the material and actually learn something, but I guess that would require some effort. Goodbye.

(51,396 posts)I trust Democrats will lower the volume on this issue as we enter debate season. There will be a ton of other concerns which will need addressing.
Meantime, Dem Party organizers are tasked with getting potential voters to give due consideration to the "Bigger Picture".

(51,396 posts)about the issue need to have their concerns addressed. I get that.
In the mean time, Dem leadership should get busy on getting potential voters focused on the "big picture" and not get sidetracked.

(58,785 posts)that we want them. We have a democracy, while we can hold onto it. Government of, by and for the people.
Does a dominating percentage of our descendants of slaves feel they should be paid reparations, and how strongly? How many do not and how strongly? We've a very wealthy nation. We could afford it. For all of us, it might be not just an honorable gesture but a practical investment in our national health if it'd make that better. Would it?
Of course other groups would demand the same, and rightfully. We could afford further reparations for descendants of indigenous Americans, of interned Japanese Americans, etc., though as numbers mounted (thinking of descendants of Hispanic victims) they might become pretty costly.
I'm thinking it's reparations for women we really might be forced to draw a line at, specifically because we are by far the largest group of victims of intense, typically institutionalized discrimination that has resulted in forms of economic, social and legal bondage through the entire existence of this nation. And we're half of all other oppressed groups. Perhaps we could settle simply for a centuries-overdue equal pay right for those to come.

(4,558 posts)For me, it's all about the end result.
I want Sanders eliminated from the primary as fast as possible. I do think she could make that happen.
I want Cheetolini out of office. This one, I currently don't have confidence in. Once the season kicks into high gear, and polls in the critical swing states like Ohio/Florida, Penn, WS, MI matched against Cheetolini start coming into play, if she's showing the strongest against him, I'm over to her.
Pretty much, I'm only in it for Beto because with him running for Potus, and if Jaoquin Castro gets into the Senate race, I do very much feel that Texas is potentially in real play. Texas alone could flip an otherwise repeat of 2016.

(147,184 posts)I have a positive opinion about almost all of the Democratic candidates, except for a couple of them, who I will not name.
Does that mean I will vote for all of them in the primary? Of course not.
So, the answers to the poll question really doesn't provide enough information to be useful.
You can enter up to 10 questions. Why not add a bit of nuance to your polls, so they allow something other than a yes or no response?
