Rachel: Is Obama part of the Democratic establishment? Bernie: No

Bernie is getting desperate.

If there is such a thing as the "Democratic Establishment", Barack Obama is the grand poobah of it.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

He thought he was on a clear trajectory towards the nomination and then out of nowhere...whoosh...along came Joe Biden who snatched it away. In a matter of hours Bernie’s front runner status evaporated. This revealed something: Bernie is not a planner. He doesn’t think strategically. It’s all emotion on the surface. Bernie’s revolution is a mile wide and an inch deep.

Thu Mar 5, 2020, 12:39 AM

and that includes a strong majority of all Democrats.
He needs to open up the flaps of his tent a bit and stop with the anti-establishment rhetoric.
He could just as easily hold all the positions he now does, but not make it an us vs them proposition.
I realize he is charging up his base, but the price may be too big to pay in November.
It's going to take all of the Democratic voters to get the job done. I don't want to see a group of disgruntled, sour-grape voters staying home rather than vote for the guy who took their guy down in the Democratic nomination process.
The stakes are far too high for that kind of stuff.

He would have no platform whatsoever if he didn’t run in the Democratic debates and races. He’s using it for his benefit, even as he condemns it. That, in the common parlance, is what we call hypocrisy.

That's what I see as his ultimate limiting factor. He wants to revolutionize the Democratic Party, but hasn't seen fit to join it.
That's why I feel he should drop this whole anti-establishment crap.
The gains he gets from the far-left are outweighed by what he loses from the traditional Democrats in the middle, including most of the black community.
Bernie is polarizing the party with an us vs them message.
A party he doesn't even belong to.
It's fine to be an independent, but then what is he doing in our primaries?
Come on Bernie!
Declare yourself a Democrat and open up your tent to include all Democrats, not just the far-left.

Smart in that it’s an attempt to cling to the most popular black public figure since MLK. He thinks it’ll help with black voters. I tend to think it will be viewed as transparent.

The not so smart part is he risks provoking Obama to “clarify” who he’s backing, which would all but end Bernie’s campaign. I doubt that’ll happen. I don’t expect him to weigh in before the very end. But why tempt fate.
