46% Undecided on DU is too much.

Everyone here not decided should never let it out of their minds, that TRUMP SUPPORTERS KNOW EXACTLY WHO THEY WILL BE VOTING FOR on November 3rd 2020, and a great majority of even republican moderates will reluctantly vote for him anyway just like they did last time. WHY....?.... Does anyone really think there is even a slim chance that anyone running against him in the republican primary will even be get close to him ? Short of an Impeachment miracle that's the reality we're facing now.

I will vote for whoever the DNC elects without reservations, as i did before. No more division !

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

not whether to vote repug or third party.

It's early and we have many good candidates. Some will self-destruct along the way, as did Swalwell with his silly vow to name a bipartisan cabinet. Others will fall out of contention after the early primaries and inability to raise funds to continue.

I myself have more than one favorite and have and will donate to them to see what shakes out. There's time.

and the Republicans' lack of primary choice is a perversion and breakdown of democracy on their side. A clear indication of the increasing authoritarian takeover of their party. Think about it: THEY HAVE NO CHOICE.

As for the notion that we on DU should commit to a candidate a year ahead of the first voting begins in other states, when new candidates are still declaring and most of the electorate isn't even paying attention is somehow getting a little carried away. Time to step back and take another look.

One thing you should notice is that almost all agree on all the big issues, just adopt somewhat different methods and priorities to distinguish themselves. We ARE united. And a couple whose identities are based on despising and not agreeing also share the same general goals. (!)

And pace yourself, U. It's going to be a long, bumpy ride, but the best thing about it is all the good democratic choices we have.

We have a wide field of candidates with what I suspect are differing points of views, policies and ideas. The primaries and the lead up to them are the time to look at those candidates and what they have to offer, what matches best with the voters believe. This is not an either or situation, it is part of the process and one that is a very valuable part of the process.

A vigorous debate of ideas is of great benefit to both the party and the Democracy. We need not rush this all things will happen in good time.

Hell, we may not even make it through this year. Trumpy is going bonkers and he's getting worse every day. And he has the nuclear codes. Jeez. He may even threaten Hollywood with a nuke if the movie industry starts approving scripts that show he's as crazy as a loon. GOPers refuse to protect themselves from the disintegration of the country, because that likely will come first. If we're still around during the real primary season, though, I'll relish the opportunity to choose a candidate. IMO, nearly all of them are top shelf good. Oh, but I've been watching Trumpy for the past three years. What a benchmark.

I believe it is entirely too early to be invested in one candidate or another. undecided doesn't mean debating between trump and our choice. It means we have a boatload of good candidates to look at. With open minds. We need to see them acting under pressure and see who is the best candidate. Trump supporters be damned, who cares? What matters is that we back the best Dem candidate, whoever it turns out to be.

I wanted to support Jay Inslee, but he signed a bill allowing for surrogacy to be for-profit, and I am having trouble getting past that. So I am trying to decide whether I can accept our different viewpoints on that matter.

If I can't make my peace with his position then I will look to other options. Right now I am leaning towards Beto O'Rourke.

Not trying to be critical, more curious... it's just that it seems a bit odd that the issue would bother you that much. I could point to more than a few issues, seemingly more significant in my mind, that sour me on Beto... like his own interactions with members of the oil industry, which would bother me a lot more than if he supported those involved in surrogacy for profit. Again, I'm not so much challenging you as trying to understand where you're coming from. Feel free to respond, or not.... either way, I respect your position.

I worry about living in a society where women are exploited for their wombs. When you bring the profit motive into the equation, coercion and duress are usually not far behind. There is also not a lot of education being provided to prospective surrogates about the potential emotional costs.

I am not sure if it will cost him my support. I do like him a lot in many ways, especially on environmental issues. I have not ruled out voting for him in the primaries.

As for Beto, what I want to know is where the candidates stand on policies, and he does seem committed to building a new energy economy based on clean energy sources. But I haven't committed to him either. I am still learning, still thinking things over.

..I have seen a couple of candidates, but the field is wide and deep. I have my favorites, but I will be seeing them all in. due. time.

Furthermore...
[ascends soapbox]

In NH I can vote in the GOP primary. Switching parties is too easy here. It takes all of 30 seconds if there is no line at the polling station.

The best protest vote against Trump is anyone else on the GOP primary ballot. Trump is only polling at 68% of GOP voters here. If Kasich or Weld or ??? is on the ballot, I am ready to let others select the Democratic nominee, whilst I cast a protest ballot. If the economy continues to weaken there may be a real chance to do damage to Tiny von Shortstaff. Heck, even if the damage is symbolic, it's still good fun while the real prize is unaffected.

The notion that one has to declare allegiance behind any candidate at this juncture is rather odd. The only solidarity I want to see is the membership body get behind the eventual nominee - even if it's someone with a 40 year Senate record of being center-right on issues. If the membership of DU does not coalesce around the nominee, I will be bewildered but not angry. Democracy is messy. There are always those that forget the past, no matter how recent, and make the same mistake(s). These people need education not lacerations.

What will I do in the primary? I don't yet know. I only know that I'm voting straight Blue in the general.

I have said many times, we can love everyone of them but can only vote for one in the primary.

Although I have declared, I love a good number of these great candidates but I can only vote for one in the primaries.

Also I welcome healthy competition for Joe.

IMO... Democrats have more than plenty running for president, and it only dilutes things to the trump/republicans favor. The republican side is all but decided, no matter who runs in the republican primary Trump will beat them easily. It would be better if some of the democrats declaring for president took a look at the senate to help us get more influence there.

It isn’t exactly “tell us right now who you’ll vote for.” There is significant time to change their mind. So about half of those polled, if they had to vote today, would just make up their mind in the time it takes to get to the polls.

Most of us who’ve stated a preference will probably change it before Election Day. So, yeah, the fact that about half can’t even state their current choice is telling, but I’m sure that will change in the coming months.

Before I make my decision, I want to hear more from ALL candidates. Not from rallies, not from their candidacy rollouts; from debates, town halls, reporters asking tough questions, reporters vetting them all. Only then will I make my choice based on how they handle themselves. My choice may even go outside the 2 I'm leaning towards now, who knows?

There's only 2 candidates I cannot vote for in a primary. I'm open to the rest. Remember, we're still in primary season. Of course I'll happily vote for, and work for, the Democratic nominee. I can say that with confidence because the 2 I can't stomach won't get the nomination.
