(CNN)Five Democratic presidential candidates will appear later this month in back-to-back CNN town halls focused on issues of importance to young voters, the network announced Thursday.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren will participate in this live, internationally telecast 2020 event from New Hampshire on April 22.
The CNN town halls are co-hosted by the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College and the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School. The presidential hopefuls will field questions directly from students and young New Hampshire Democrats, said a CNN spokeswoman, who added the audience will be drawn from the two schools and a pool of young Democrats living in the state.
On April 22, Chris Cuomo will moderate the Klobuchar (7 p.m. ET) and Sanders (9 p.m. ET) town halls, Anderson Cooper will moderate the Warren (8 p.m. ET) and Buttigieg (11 p.m. ET) town halls, and Don Lemon will moderate the Harris (10 p.m. ET) town hall.
The CNN town halls will take place on the campus of Saint Anselm College, and coincide with the release of the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School's new national poll of young voters.
The latest Harvard Poll shows that Sanders has a commanding lead among 18-29 year olds over his political rivals: 31% back Sanders, while former Vice President Joe Biden places second with 20% support. At this point during the 2016 campaign, Sanders was polling at only 2% with the same age group in the Harvard poll.

(2,113 posts)I am also already familiar with all of the candidates that stand any chance of winning the nomination. Even though I have been voting exclusively for Democrats since 2008 I have never felt compelled to change my registration. I REALLY like Beto enough where if he's still in the running closer to the deadline to register I plan on changing my registration to Democrat. (I have been an Independent my entire adult life...I'm in my 50's) It's really pissing me off that Beto is being ignored because he's the best overall candidate to beat Trump, along with Biden. That's why I'm kind of salty.

(2,113 posts)I said that IF Beto is still in it and I would be able to vote for him when Florida has it's primary then I intend to switch to Democrat so that I can vote for him. If he's not still in it then I will stay registered as an Independent just as I have for the last 35 years.
Not sure why this appears to be an issue, especially considering that I have voted EXCLUSIVELY for Democrats for over a decade, probably longer than that, actually.

(2,113 posts)And I work from home and have it on with the volume down within eyeshot while working. I didn't see it or see it advertised even once, and I've been watching for it since he announced he was running.
He does have an interview at 7pm tonight on Axe Files, which is good.

(2,113 posts)Much of the press have been minimizing him and I don't think it's OK. It's not at all about the other candidates...it's about the media trying to manipulate things like they did in 2016 and I'm not playing along.
I have been watching individual town halls. I'm just not going to reward press manipulation of excluding a major candidate in these group townhalls.
As I mentioned, I normally don't vote during primaries because I live in Florida which has closed primaries. I'm an Independent so unless I change my registration I am not eligible to vote in the primary. The only candidate who inspires me so much that I would switch my registration is Beto.

(31,261 posts)Town Halls and debates allow me to hear the candidates that I have not ruled out voting for (unless one of them wins the Democratic Party nomination). So I appreciate every opportunity that comes along.

I don't think it's always as you imagine, only some of the time, but pitchers are always trying to get out the guys up to bat. It'll be worse later on. But those who aren't ready for that league should get out of the way of those who are.
My big wish is that the electorate was better at their job.
