Trumps inability to lead or help is apparent now. It will be tragically obvious in a very short time. In this already unsettling time, its difficult to read doom and gloom predictions, especially without citing reasons.

(13,850 posts)I'm sorry you've experienced that. I know that Biden folks should know what it's like to be attacked and decide to work with the Bernie voters to defeat Trump.
Biden will be the nominee. That's looking pretty obvious at this point. But I really hope that Biden utilizes Bernie and his base here. Bernie has given rise to support for some very necessary changes to the way we run our economy. We need to have a national discussion about workers/minimum wage. Especially for the hourly wage workers who are putting their lives on the line right now. And Teachers, who have been forced to upend their entire lives to make remote learning work.
Also, we should be utilizing his knowledge in making a universal healthcare system a reality. How to implement changes, garner support from the populace, etc. Because it needs to be done, even if just incrementally.
I want to work with people who are passionate about that. I want to move forward, say goodby to DJT forever, and have hope for our children's future. ENOUGH of this!

(10,301 posts)Even if you haven't personally viciously attacked other Democratic candidates like a sizable contingent of your fellow Sanders supporters have, I can see why there would be blowback. I guess I could give you the same advice that the Bernie Bros were giving to us when we were trying to warn about the evils of a potential Trump administration and trying to do all we could to GOTV for the Democratic nominee: "clean up your own house first."
If I see a Biden supporter acting out in the ways you say, I will gladly call them out on it. You should do the same for your fellow Sanders supporters, although I imagine you won't find all that many here on this site since it's basically against the terms of service here to attack Democrats and the Democratic Party the way they constantly do...

If I encounter any one misbehaving, I do call them out on it, but it has only been a rare occurance. Did it ever occur to you that maybe the disrespectful ones were not true Sanders' supporters but weirdos trying to cause dissension? I believe that sort of nonsense happens on all sides. That's the trouble with the internet and the anonymity therein. Some of the worst hostility I've face as a Bernie supporter has been on DU. I was the victim a couple of times of a tag team trying to goad me into saying something that they could alert on. I came out okay, but it was very ugly.

It helped him at first. Weeks/months later, after the truth came out, revealing Bush's incompetence and lack of concern, the public turned against him.
I suspect the same thing will happen now. Trump's pressers are nothing but propaganda and self-aggrandizement. It might help him in the short run, but as this crisis unfolds, and Americans gain a clearer picture of what's really going on, Trump will be politically damaged.

Joe Biden, the 2020 Democratic front-runner, slammed President Donald Trump over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic Friday, accusing him of being behind the curve through his whole response.
Biden, speaking on a conference call with reporters, offered a series of blunt missives for Trump, and criticized him for repeatedly providing the American people with misinformation about the virus.
Step up and do your job, Mr. President, Biden said.
In times of crisis, the American people deserve a president who tells them the truth, Biden said. Unfortunately, President Trump has not been that president.
People are scared. Theyre worried. They dont know quite what to do," he added. He has been behind the curve throughout this whole response."

On Friday, Biden spoke to reporters from his home in Delaware, explaining that hed been keeping radio silence while his staff tackled the challenging technical problem of setting up higher-quality cameras and video conferencing equipment. Weve hired a professional team to do that now, Biden told reporters. And excuse the expression: Thats a little above my pay grade. But Biden promised that soon he would be in daily or at least significant contact with the American people, to provide a counterweight to Donald Trumps daily torrent of lies and misinformation.
Biden is planning to begin regular coronavirus briefings on Monday, assuming his staff can figure out how to crank the camera. But on Saturday, the age of daily or at least significant contact with the American people began. DJ Derrick Jones, better known as D-Nice, hosted a social distancing dance party on Instagram, playing classic hip-hop and R&B for hours as musicians like John Legend and Common made guest appearances and other celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama, stopped by to check out the music. One of those celebrities was Joe Biden:

(443 posts)Sanders is the one who has disappeared. He lost in landslide fashion. The nature of this catastrophe has drowned out everything else and Trump can go on TV and spout off whenever he wants. You also cant have rallies or engage with people on a personal one on one level. Last thing we need is for Biden to get sick or anyone else. Biden also has to be careful not going too far in a national crisis as loathsome as Trump is, Biden cant be seen as undermining the recovery even though he has to also hammer this target rich orange manbaby. This is an unprecedented situation and although I disagree with the post and think Biden has been active we also need to acknowledge this new reality and think outside the box and conduct a campaign in unprecedented ways. Biden doing daily briefings, ads, virtual town halls or good steps but can more be done. Sure. I have a couple ideas. Biden should be going on every talk show and interview he can. He could do a series of conversation/interview with experts in a relevant field like Obamas Ebola Czar to help educate the public and turn them into short digestible videos. He could do a daily series of interviews with everyday Americans who are suffering from this and offer them compassion, understanding, advice and explain how he wants to help that person. Please feel free to add constructive suggestions. There are a lot of bright creative people here. But I think we all have to now be political vigilantes and engage social media in every level to do the attack dog stuff and echoe chamber what the campaign is doing.

(1,076 posts)Primaries that are essentially over sort of go moribund in the media until the convention, as it is, but circumstances this time are quite different from the norm.
What do you expect him to do regarding appearances? He can't go out in public to do the usual campaign events AND set a good example for how to deal with COVID-19. Being more visible in public would be not only grossly irresponsible, but also dangerous for someone his age.
His ideas for how to deal with COVID-19 were so good that Dolt45 stole some of them, and all of the media noticed it.
He totally owned the news coverage from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning with his big wins in Arizona, Florida and Illinois. He gave one of the finest victory speeches that we've seen in a long time that won universal praise. Did you not see it?
We know FROM HIM that he's meeting with experts to devise a COVID-19 plan that gets the country healthy and back on its feet.
Believe it or not, that's far from a bad media week. Every candidate should have a week full of win like that.

(5,969 posts)Biden did criticize Trump but in a crisis it has to be constructive and not seen as an exploitation. But it's possible you guys don't realize that. That's what happens when you are living in a bubble and when you don't care what Biden actually does and what his policy proposals are in contrast to the distorted view you have of him.
And btw, Biden has been a "forceful critic" of Trump all along because he realizes the danger. BS and his staff of Dem haters on the other side seemed to have campaigned more against the Democratic Party and as a result, a part of his followers are just fine with seeing Trump getting reelected.

Still, if youre curious, Politico tells us about Bidens upcoming plans:Joe Biden is planning a regular shadow briefing on coronavirus to start as early as Monday to show how he would handle the crisis and address what he calls the lies and failures of President Trump. Biden gave a preview of whats to come in a conference call with reporters Friday, where he listed a litany of false and misleading statements from Trump, who has been holding regular White House press conferences concerning coronavirus preparedness and response that have been broadcast live on all major networks.
Biden made his comments from his home in Wilmington, Delaware, where he has been holed up for more than a week in adherence with Centers for Disease Control guidelines that urge people to practice social distancing.
Immediately after the initial onset of the crisis, Biden also held his fire against the president out of concern it would look too political an accusation leveled at him anyway by Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale, who said that Biden will take attention from real updates Americans should know just to score political points. Ever since his commanding victories Tuesday against Bernie Sanders in Florida, Illinois and Arizona, Biden has made no public appearances or statements. Instead, he said, he has been spending time privately talking to health officials, businesses, governors and members of Congress.
To recap: Bidenwho, again, has been out of the public eye for only three daysis (a) following CDC guidelines, (b) getting briefed privately by health officials and members of Congress so that he knows what hes talking about before he opens his mouth, and (c) making plans to hold regular coronavirus briefings.
This all sounds pretty reasonable to me. I very much doubt that Biden has lost anything by staying quiet for a few days in March.
