I hope New Yorkers send an especially big "FU" with their votes to him and his campaign for putting us all through this, yet again, and during a global crisis no less.

His narcissism is sickening.

to get some Biden voters doing this. It's only such a great gesture if non-BS voters do that. Some excellent stealth mission you've got going on there.

on, the more he helps Trump. He should have already conceded. I don't like Bernie...but I never would have expected him to behave this way when he has no chance of winning the primary and during a national crisis no less. He will not be our nominee clearly, but I am beginning to think he should be primaryed. in 24 should he run again for the Senate. The Democratic Party should offer him no beneficial treatment as they do now.

...rather than wanting to run him off and replace him with an actress from Sex and the City like you were just a short time ago.

I guess it's just like how you talked up Biden back in 2016 once it was clear that Hillary was going to trounce Sanders -- and now you all trash him -- and how you all liked Warren back in 2016 -- until she ran in the same nomination that Sanders was, and then she became a SNAKE!

Just a sad set of situational principles on display here.

2008 is relevant as a point of comparison. Bernie-haters like to try to blame Bernie for Hillary's loss in 2016, and the fact that Bernie did much more for HRC in 2016 than HRC did for Obama in 2008 shows how false that talking point is.

88. You are basing that declaration on one standard: how many public rallies did each attend.

Using that metric, HRC did 27 public rallies, Bernie did 39. But she also did large numbers of fundraisers, to help Obama cover the airwaves more thoroughly. And she did appearances before various interest groups, which helped organize support around Obama, and were also publicly covered on television. Her total number of events for Obama was in the high 50s, I believe.

And, of course, there is more to take into account than the number of events that each candidate attended. Upon dropping out of the race, Hillary famously asked her supporters to work as hard to elect Obama as they would have for her. And she delivered a rousing speech for him at the Democratic convention. She also was a lot more excited in helping to build up a narrative about what a great president he would be, while Bernie did not exactly describe electing Hillary as a great opportunity for the country.

Hillary's rousing support for Obama in 2008 was such a huge story at the time, and it continued to be talked about for many years thereafter. It amazes me that this has been so easily forgotten. That says a lot about the era that we are living in.

109. Also the outcome, which is more Bernie primary voters went for HRC than HRC primary voters for Obama

I don't doubt that Hillary did more wine-cave style fundraisers with ultra-wealthy donors for Obama, because Bernie didn't do those at all, and even if he did, I doubt that his presence would open up the wallets of execs and corporate lobbyists.

Thing is, Bernie did do more rallies, and even if you try to juke the numbers or claim that Hillary's endorsement was more "rousing", at the end of the day Bernie was more successful in getting his voters to turn out for Hillary than she was in getting her voters to turn out for Obama.

And that's a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the effort that Bernie put into helping Hillary's campaign. It amazes me that people ignore that and insist on blaming Bernie for Hillary's loss.

119. I don't see how you can remember the two elections and conclude that Bernie was more supportive

of HRC than Clinton was for Obama.

Hillary worked tirelessly to deliver the message that Obama was the guy we needed and that the opportunity to elect him was an exciting prospect for our country.

Bernie mainly talked about the importance of beating Trump. He cultivated a narrative that she was only trying to appear progressive because he had somehow forced him to.

And this is not just about how Democrats or liberals voted. It is about how he affected her among swing-voters. Hillary had high poll numbers not too long before that election. The fake email scandal ended that. Bernie's portrayal of her fed into that story. He joined the GOP in portraying her in a negative light, in a deeply personal way. That helped them sell the fake email scandal and prevented her from rebounding, something she has been very good at over the years.

After the convention he got busy "writing a book" and was absent for that crucial period in which he could have promoted unity... he could have stepped-up and been a leader... but he said nothing. He just disappeared and left his flock to wander aimlessly. Rather than giving them guidance and purpose and motivation, they simply licked their wounds and grew resentful. This is fact.

Let a narrative start that he had been cheated and Trump rode it right to the White House.

Bernie's go to move is playing the victim and his supporters take it to a whole new level. It's toxic.

If you think handing China the keys to total domination of the Asian markets was a good idea, then vote for Sanders and he will arrange to hand over the European markets to them as well. He talkes about reducing tariffs, well the trade agreement that he held kill would have removed 18,000 tariffs, yes that is 18,000 throughout Asia. He is a total zero two-bit demagogue no different than the abomination that he helped put in office.

In exchange for his tacit support for Hillary and appearing in about 30 rallies in 4 months, he got to re-write the Democratic Party platform.

A small price to pay for an Independent loser to wield so much power in the Democratic Party. And still, a full 12% of his followers voted for Trump. With full support like this, who needs third parties? The Democrats got the short end of the stick, which is not likely to happen again.

He isn't going to help Biden so there is no reason to keep this going in the futile hope, we can win over Sanders voters....we will win some but not all...Biden is the presumptive nominee...not going to play the Sanders game in 2020. She did so much, and Obama was so pleased, that he chose her for probably the most important cabinet post following the disastrous bush administration - Secretary of State.

Many of Sanders' appearances were small events in and around New England, driving distance from home. And his first appearance was on Labor Day, about six weeks after the convention adjourned.

The facts are clear. Bernie did more rallies for Hillary than she did for Obama. And, as a result, a greater percentage of Bernie voters voted HRC than HRC voters voted for Obama in 2008.

I think the single most glaring indication that Bernie-bashers are driven by irrational hatred (and there are many) is the fact that they consistently ignore these obvious and plain truths and insist on blaming Bernie for Hillary's 2016 loss despite all the evidence to the contrary.

By the time he was done with her young voters thought that she was barely a Democrat. They didn't realize that her approach as president would have been very similar to that of Barack Obama.

He also helped to sell the narrative that she supposedly had all sorts of power to get away with doing terrible things, even if she was guilty, and that definitely helped to sell the fake email scandal, which dominated that election more than every other issue combined.

104. The Technical Term For That Statement, Sir, Is Bullshit

Sanders did not do what he had to do be an effective supporter for Mrs. Clinton and the Democratic ticket.

Which was to apologize for his conduct, and own up to his lies about corruption on Mrs. Clinton's part. He needed to say he had not told the truth in his attacks on her, and to say he regretted having smeared a fine woman who would make a great President. He needed to acknowledge he lost fair and square, because he was not the choice of Democratic Party voters, as registered by Mrs. Clinton's receiving several million more votes than he did. He needed to tell his supporters to pack it in, and that he disowned them as splinterists and wreckers if they did not. A gentlemen would done all of this, though a gentleman would not have conducted himself as Sanders did in the first place.

121. Again, Sir, You Are Simply Repeating Bullshit

He did nothing but give his stump-speech with a few additions.

The other factoid is not a fact, but one interpretation of polling data that is open to serious question, as exit polling does not show any unusual bulge in Democrat voting Republican responses, which necessarily would be there if the claim you make was accurate. A certain proportion of a party's proclaimed adherents vote for the other side in an election, and that ran to a normal range in 2008.

It remains a fact, Sanders did not do what he had to do to be an effective advocate for Mrs. Clinton, and the breadth and depth of his failure in this regard may be read above. There is no need for me to repeat it. Doubtless you will trot back with your yapping little factoids, but repetition will not lend them any greater weight, or make them any more accurate a description of events in the past.

Some of these might be rescheduled even yet. But even if not, it is highly doubtful that Sanders would take any of them, except perhaps Wyoming, Alaska, or Hawaii—all low delegate count states

108. Dan you have been around a long time...you know how fundraising works. We can't begin to put a

war chest in place for Biden and down ballot races until Sanders is out officially. Trump has huge amounts of money already so Sanders is risking the General and could reelect Trump. So please don't insult my intelligence. You know why he should get out and that he has no chance of winning.

The question with everything now on the line, why would Sanders not do it right now so we could turn to getting Trump out...with the Corona virus...fundraising will be a big issue. My husband has lost his job as has my sister, brother, son and one daughter...I will soon lose mine: so we will struggle to put food on the table if Corona goes on for any length of time;there will be no funds for campaign contributions;funding our campaigns will be a big problem. It is more important to get Trump out and as many GOP types as we can...the latest meme is those over 60 should happily sacrifice their lives for the 'economy'...and of course for the 'children'. These folks are sociopaths and must be shown the door in November along with sociopath in chief-Trump.

The priority has to be getting fucking Trump and his GOP minions out or should be...not assuaging Sanders' hurt feeling or lining his pockets with additional campaign contributions.

26. It really serves no good purpose. It gives his surrogates more opportunities to kneecap Biden.

It's a dangerous game. It really serves no good purpose. His top campaign staff continue their efforts at kneecapping Biden and denigrating the party. Such efforts do not help Bernie at this late date. But it does help to divide and weaken the Democratic party.

He needs to accept reality. Everyone in the real world knows that Bernie will NOT be our party's nominee. He's lost. It's over. It's BEEN over.

It's a lost cause. The voters have made it clear: We are Democrats... WE DO NOT WANT BERNIE & WE DO NOT WANT SOCIALISM.

For him to continue on his quixotic path will only create deeper divisions and distrust. His motives are suspicious and clearly do not have the best interest of the party (or the country) in mind. It only generates negativity.

Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

What good purpose does that serve. Is one person's ego and pride worth it? He needs to just swallow his pride and do the right thing.

I agree that was not right.
You know what else is "not right"? No other candidate campaigns against the Democratic party, just Bernie.

He hired some really deplorable people to be the faces of his campaign. He made the Democratic party, their leadership and with that some of their best politicians his enemies who conspire against him.

The rhetoric coming from him and from his campaign has a toxic and erosive effect. He deliberately plays that dangerous game and is fully aware that campaigning like this will turn his supporters away from the Democratic Party if he doesn't win the nomination.

No other Democrat behaves like this and it creates frustration and anger among Democrats because we've been through this before. It contributed to getting Trump elected and despite all that, BS doesn't care about it and still plays the same game.

All I'm trying to say is that it serves NO GOOD PURPOSE for his quixotic game to continue. It's divisive and it harms the party, it weakens the party. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

The sort of left factions Sanders represents, by their resolve to demonstrate they cannot be relied on in a general election, force the Party to campaign more towards the center, and even the right, in hopes of making up for the strength these left factions are always willing to subtract from the Party's total, for reasons which are, put bluntly, mostly naive moonshine.

To proclaim 'you can't count on me if you don't tickle me just right' is, to put it at its mildest, a self-defeating strategy.

139. Seems to me

that the Democrats have a rare gift horse in Joe Biden. He is a true-blue diehard liberal who for whatever reason is also acceptable to many in the middle...moderate and even conservative Dems and Indies and some Trump-hating Republicans. Whether they support Joe despite him being to their left because they believe he is trustworthy, perceive him as a good empathetic soul or they just despise Trump is somewhat irrelevant...a vote counts the same regardless of the reason it was cast.

Instead of appealing to a somewhat fringe element on one extreme of the political spectrum seems to me the Dems ought not look a gift horse in the mouth and just run with him as is. Republican strategists are watching Biden like a hawk at the moment to see how much he ends up conceding to Bernie in order to woo some of his unreliable supporters and they will use this as ammo to hammer the middle during the GE campaign.

But I am a somewhat biased judge...I was a Biden boy way back in 2008 and thought he was the best candidate for the job even then. There was nobody in the 2020 field that changed my mind, although I thought that many of the candidates would have made very good presidents...some of whom never even made it to Iowa just as Joe failed to do back in 2008.

"This pretense of not knowing what any fool knows has come to predominate in our political discourse."

No one is trying to protect Mr. Biden, at least not in the sense you clearly mean.

Sander's course present two chief difficulties.

First, the longer he persists, the more riled and bitter at his defeat a portion of his supporters becomes. People who might be amenable to sober consideration of consequences today might not be, if 'Bernie' keeps up his shrill charade till May or June.

Second, Sanders in campaigning will make charges that will allow the press, eager to display 'balance', to claim charges made by Republicans in the general election reflect bi-partisan concerns over these matters. This will give them greater weight in the public mind.

at least until the NY primary if that primary will be even held that day. It makes no sense to stop after getting clobbered in a state that is expensive to run ads in. Unless this is another of BS' hail marys like Michigan, Washington, Illinois...

I dont think he will have as much negative impact as he did in 2016 but he certainly wont be helping our cause.

I care. If his smears and attacks on the Democratic party (and the process) are not refuted, then they become "fact" in the minds of many. By not dropping out and endorsing Joe Biden, it gives his surrogates more opportunities to kneecap Biden.

It's a dangerous game. It really serves no good purpose. His top campaign staff continue their efforts at kneecapping Biden and denigrating the party. Such efforts do not help Bernie at this late date. But it does help to divide and weaken the Democratic party.

We can't ignore that. This isn't just something that loyal Democrats "ignore" and "move on" from. It's a threat that must continually be addressed. It's an unnecessary distraction that prevents us from being able to focus all of our attention on bringing down Trump and the GOP.

135. Completely selfish and irresponsible.

Bernie should stop thinking of himself and think of the nation. The same way Mayor Pete and Klobuchar did when they ended their run and backed the actual Democrat in the race.

Very over Bernie. Over him being a Democrat when he needs us and an anti-establishment crusader when he doesn't think he needs us.

176. I hope Biden ignores him.

And focuses all his energy on Trump, the GOP and their non-response to the Covid-19 crisis, among other things. I'm seriously wondering if Bernie isn't getting his orders from Putin. I really, really have to question his motivation right now. It is either incredibly self-centered, or he is trying to continue to divide liberals and help Trump get another term. I just don't understand what good it's doing having him overstay his welcome.

In the 1960's, Vermont's minority consisted of less than 800. So how did he continue his civil rights activism?

182. Why Can't Bernie Accept That Democratic Voters Didn't Want Him?

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/bernie-sanders-democratic-primary-joe-biden-2020-voters-establishment.html

Sanders advisers told the New York Times they believed they had been on the precipice of sweeping to victory on Super Tuesday, until Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg dropped out and endorsed Biden. Ben Tulchin, a Sanders pollster, claimed the candidate was “on the brink of winning until the most unprecedented event in the history of presidential primaries occurred.”

It is hardly unprecedented for the fifth- and sixth-place candidates to drop out of a race after four primaries. Yet Sanders himself has fixated on this decision as evidence of an Establishment conspiracy. Appearing on ABC’s This Week several days later, he described it as “the power of the Establishment to force Amy Klobuchar, who had worked so hard, Pete Buttigieg, who had really worked extremely hard as well, out of the race.”

From Bernie’s perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they don’t want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway.

Sanders campaign spokesman Mike Casca argued, “Because of the agenda that he’s putting forward, a lot of super wealthy forces are aligned against him.” But Sanders has enjoyed a wide spending advantage over Biden, who at the key juncture was operating on a shoestring budget. If Michael Bloomberg had won, it would have been fair to wonder if he had bought the nomination. Biden’s appeal to the electorate was authentic, not purchased.
