3/27 5am Bernie Sanders On His Campaign: 'It's Going To Be A Very Steep Road'

March 27, 2020·5:00 AM ET
Biden currently holds a more than 300 delegate lead in the race for the Democratic nomination. During an online press conference Wednesday, Biden was asked about whether there should be more Democratic primary debates and answered, "I think we've had enough debates. I think we should get on with this."

Sanders conceded that he substantially lagged Biden in the race, saying "it's going to be a very steep road," but said there was value to holding more debates.

Sanders told King he's convinced the Senate's emergency relief package will be followed with another "massive" bill within the next month. Sanders said the pandemic has caused Americans to rethink the nature of the role that government can play in their lives.

"I think there is growing sentiment in this country that people now understand that it is incomprehensible that we remain the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care to all, that we have an economy which leaves half of our people...living paycheck to paycheck," Sanders said.

"I think given the nature of the healthcare crisis and the economic crisis, Congress will be back once again (within the next month) for a major, major stimulus package," Sanders said.

Just to let uninsured (unemployed) know, healthcare.gov again has open enrollment for about 15 states & the rest of the states should be on board soon. There are several plans where the insured wouldn't have to pay any premiums. Hopefully this pandemic hits the curve soon & people reading this stay healthy. If not though, it's best to have a Doctor/insurance in place to call for help.

Obama Foundation has released several statements about the pandemic. I think Obama had a lot to do with re-opening insurance enrollment. It was mentioned two days ago Obama is in contact with the campaigns. He's not ready to endorse or called to end the primary 'debate' and neither am I.

These are extraordinary times, even Joe Biden mentioned about his VP choice- He wants a VP 'ready to be President'. That statement gave me chills- our contenders know(god forbid!) they could catch corona virus and die.

We're all in that dark tunnel together, let us hope by June/July? everyone makes it out the other side.

It takes no great wizardry to predict that. This crisis is going to persist, and the necessary public health measures will continue to depress economic activity. Even wretches like McConnell recognize in such circumstances the people must be brought off, lest civil disorder complicate matters further. The only wrangle will be about the level at which these bounties for quiescence will be set, not whether they will be paid.

I am quite willing to call the Presidential primary over and done. Viewed dispassionately, Sanders is in the position of a baseball team with a season won/lost record of .400, ten games out of first, with the team on top enjoying a season won/loss record of .600. With eleven games to go, it will be clear to anyone the pennant is going to the latter team, not the former, and that by the end of the season the distance between them will have expanded to a dozen games.

Viewed with regard to its political effect, Sanders' continuing is the act of a splinterist wrecker, nothing more. It can bring no benefit whatsoever, and will do real harm. Again, the only questions are how much harm will it do, and will the harm done be sufficient to maintain Trump in office. It cannot even be assumed 'Bernie' does not intend this worst possible outcome, or would be too discomfited by it. 'Bernie' is not really running for the Party's nomination for President, 'Bernie' is running to overthrow the 'Democratic Establishment', and may well consider in his heart of hearts that balking success in ousting Trump just might contrive that. A silver lining for his life-long radical aspirations, in a damned dark cloud for the people and our country.

"From Bernie’s perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they don’t want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."

for him to catch up (even if Repub-Russia tsunami'd the nation with poison Kool-Aid like never before) is the evil DNC's "hidden hand" rigging the election against him.

The paranoid poison his own campaign's been hosing the nation with is not always completely wrong, although it is always despicably dishonest and unprincipled. Strengthening our democratic process to accurately reflect the will of Democratic voters, instead of winner-take-all, made it much harder for wily coyotes to smash and take. And that was entirely on purpose.

If this pandemic persists through June/July as Sanders mentioned 'Americans will need another huge help bill within 30 days.

BSers still acting like they're special little snowflakes who have never had their candidate lose the nomination months before the convention, when it's happened multiple times--this year alone! Do you think supporters of Warren, Buttigieg and all the others aren't upset about having their candidates backing out so early? The difference between them and BSers is that they're mature adults with dignity, while BSers would rather lie about "losing their vote" were BS to do the decent thing and concede. What, did the Warren and etc. voters after Super Tuesday lose their votes? Of course not. They simply had to make another choice--like millions have done before them for decades now.

You're not special, BSers. You're not owed anything. You'll still have your vote if you're a registered voter in one of the upcoming primary states. Go down and see. You'll be able to go to a polling place and cast a ballot. It's just that if you vote for your self-serving fraud, he still won't become the nominee. You can cry about that all you want, lie and pout and stamp your feet all you want, but that will not change/

BS has lost, Democratic voters have told him they're just not into him, so he either needs to concede and get behind Biden 100%, or go away, once and for all.

Party leaders should proceed as if 'Bernie' already had conceded, and begin public endorsements and raising and disbursing of funds. It might be necessary to change some Party rules to do this, but those are internal matters that could be changed at will. There really is no need to maintain Sanders' pretensions in countenance. He is not really a candidate for the Party's nomination, Mr. Biden has won the line, and is the only Democrat remaining of the field.

They won't vote for Biden anyway, no need to pander to them. If we ignore them they are not able to take all the air out of the room. What he is hoping for is that turnout will be low in the primaries that are coming and he might actually win one.

Also, the favorability ratings of trump are NOT as good as the media was pushing a few days ago

Are effectively useless. They're fun, but they mean nothing. Not only can a great deal change between now and then, but people aren't thinking about who to vote for seriously right now. They will later.

As it is, I don't see Biden losing PA in November. When push comes to shove, PA will vote for the guy who's one of them, who was born and mostly raised there, the guy who "speaks their language" and understands them, and not for that ugly, fat orange filth from New York City who doesn't have a clue about PA. He probably doesn't even know how to spot it on a map.

Watch for how much he creams BS in the primary. The bigger the win, the more likely he'll win the state in November.

Even in that interview he lapses into his stump speech about "healthcare for all and people living paycheck to paycheck". How many times do we have to hear that?

Did the interviewer ask him what primaries he might possibly win going forward? He's not even close to winning a single one, much less winning by enough to get the nomination.

"I am sick and tired of millionaires and billionaires...". Man, if you had a drinking game party during a debate you'd be plastered by the end of it.

I think Sanders keeps pushing to have endless debates ad nauseam because he keeps hoping that one of these days Joe will come out in a big diaper, pee all over the stage floor and start drooling all over his bib.

I have to admit, if Biden did that I might have to change my vote.

Senator Sanders: it's over. You've lost. Do what's best for the country that you love and suspend your campaign. The sooner you do that, the sooner that Mr. Biden will listen to you and your supporters - those that are persuadable at least - and give you a voice in shaping his campaign for the general election.

who if both men were roughly tied in delegates and Bernie was projected to win around half the states going forward would still be calling for BS to drop out?

I sure as hell wouldn't be.

And are there any Biden folks who if the shoe was on the other foot and Joe was trailing BS by 100s of delegates and not predicted to win a single future primary would not be saying that Joe should drop out so we could start coalescing and begin focusing on beating Trump?

I sure as hell would be.

I wouldn't like it at all but I'd still be trying to pull together so we could win in November. And even though I would probably be convinced that Bernie was gonna get his ass kicked I'd still dutifully check his name on my ballot.

I would not like it, but I would do my duty.

"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

It does no good to waste time speculating about what if scenarios about Biden and the guy who won't concede being roughly tied, because they don't change anything.

They can't, because the two aren't roughly tied, and they won't be. Not now. Not ever. The road ahead is nothing but epic fail for BS. The math isn't there, and someone who cared about the party more than his ego would face up to that and step aside so that the party could unite behind the choice of the voters.

BS and his BSers had their chance to make their case. They lost. They're the ones who need to deal with that, rather than pitching whiny-ass hissy fits about it.

And knock off the lie about their vote. I don't see any of the people making this ridiculous argument explaining why we need to make an exception for BS and his whiny ass titty baby supporters, but not for the supporters of Warren, Bloomberg, Buttigieg and all the others who had to concede, way back when, but before their supporters had a chance to vote in the primaries.

If they could pull up their big kid pants and get their asses to the polls to vote anyway, then BSers can do the same damned thing.

but said there was value to holding more debates.
The only "value" in holding more debates is to benefit Bernie. Joe shouldn't (and probably won't) agree to waste time debating someone who's already lost the race.

This thing is over, and Bernie is still pretending that he has a chance... that he can serve up a miracle come-from-behind victory. But it ain't gonna happen. He knows it. I know it. You know it. We ALL know that Bernie is not going to be our party's nominee.

He's had PLENTY of time to come to terms with it. He's had PLENTY of time to come up with a nice and face-saving way to withdraw from the race and endorse Joe Biden.

The window of opportunity for him to do this gracefully and to preserve any sense of honor and integrity that may be remaining... well... that window is closing. Time is short.

If he wants to make a difference, then the first thing he needs to do is withdraw and get on the Biden Bandwagon to help defeat Trump and the GOP. Anything short of that will only serve to divide and weaken the Democratic party. Not endorsing Biden only creates resentment and distrust.

What good purpose does that serve? It's does nothing except create an atmosphere of negativity. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

I first heard about it when I was watching one of the "Engineering Disasters" episodes on cable TV many years ago.

I was always thankful that nothing I ever worked on ended up making it on that show! My first job was on the Space Shuttle but thank God it was the O-rings on the Challenger that failed which I had nothing to do with. Then when the Columbia came apart during reentry I was deathly afraid that it WAS my part that time but when I read the accident report it turned out that what I had worked on was actually firing like crazy to keep the vehicle pointed in the right direction as the wing melted and kept the crew alive as long as it could until it reached its limit and that was that.

Sent a real chill up my spine reading that report, boy.
