More than half of Connecticut residents would support Biden over Trump

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by at 51.9% to 35.6% margin in a new Hartford Courant/Sacred Heart University poll.

In another head-to-head matchup in the race for president, the poll also found that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also leads President Trump by a 49.6% to 38% margin.

“Most folks were converting over to Biden,” said Michael Vigeant, CEO of GreatBlue Research, the firm that conducted the poll for Sacred Heart University’s Institute for Public Policy and the Courant. “When you look at what the national and local sentiment is, it’s a time of uncertainty. You have an unknown with Sanders, versus Biden, who was in office for eight years. There’s some continuity there.”

Biden, who leads in the delegate race for the Democratic nomination for president, is set to face off against Sanders in the April 28 Connecticut primary. The primary will likely be delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
