Biden confirms he's considering Whitmer for VP

Former Vice President Joe Biden confirmed this week that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is one of the women he's considering as a potential running mate in his White House bid.

Biden, who has already vowed to tap a woman as his vice presidential pick, said Tuesday night he’s been considering Whitmer for the role for months, but that he is eyeing as many as 10 potential candidates.

“She made the list in my mind two months ago. There’s probably going to be a list, I’m in the process of, Brian, we’ll have it by mid-April, putting together an organization that will run the background checks…by the second or third week in April,” Biden told MSNBC host Brian Williams.

“I’ve thought about some of the women who I believe are ready to be president and I think I can work with and would be willing to work with me. It’s going to be somewhere between six and 10 of them.”

My first ever vote for President was for Shirley Chisholm in 1972.

Same for the Senators that are potential candidates. It would be best that the individual not have a current responsibility while running at this time. Dole resigned his Senate seat when running for President. Maybe whoever is selected would consider resigning as well? I don't think Whitmer should resign or should run as VP right now.

Great Depression, WWII, Great Recession, even the Civil War had politicians governing while they managed a crisis. I think resigning may actually make one look weaker, and it would have to be up to the individual to decide whether they could govern and campaign at the same time.

Of course, there isn't a *heck* of a lot of campaigning happening now

I think any public official at the state or federal level is going to be dealing with this. Harris, Warren, Klobuchar, Duckworth, etc. are all going to be dealing with legislation in the Senate, and any Governor such as Whitmer will be dealing with this. I guess there's Stacey Abrams, who's not currently in office, but my money is not on her being selected.

Seems like non-news to me, though I'm happy about the woman part.

So he's adding her to the list.

The news is not that Biden is ‘considering a woman’.
The news is that he’s considering Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

I still think Harris is the one but Whitmer as VP is compelling. A high-profile, very popular Governor of a major swing state surrounded by other swing states. That is hard to beat.
