BS had his chance to debate Joe Biden and it didn't go over so well.

Despite Sanders’s generally strong support among Latino voters, Biden’s victory in Arizona is unsurprising. Ahead of the primary, Biden had netted victories in 16 other states and gave a strong performance in the latest debate, projecting “confidence and competence on the coronavirus pandemic” and landing “solid hits” on Sanders’s record, as my colleague Zack Beauchamp writes.

39. One Of The More Nonesensical Lines Pressed In The 'Bernie-Verse', Sir
Sat Apr 4, 2020, 08:25 PM
Apr 2020

Mr. Biden has nothing to gain from a debate. He has already demonstrated he is master of the situation.

In present circumstances, the victor does not share a stage with the defeated rival in order to drive home the latter's insignificance. Sanders lacks the status to appear in any circumstance suggesting equality with Mr. Biden. Sanders pleading for an appearance on a stage with Mr. Biden only emphasizes his lower status, and when his pleas are ignored, Sanders status declines further. Sanders may dream of a forensic triumph, but that does not mean anyone is afraid he would have one. This is not even a question of avoiding risk for Mr. Biden. It is a question of manifesting status on the most basic level of primate competition for dominance. The degree to which elections turn on such basic, almost bodily considerations, is something intellectually driven persons fail to properly appreciate, and one which professional politicians have an instinctual feel for.

"From Bernie’s perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they don’t want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."

"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

care option. You do know as presently constituted, Medicare only pays for 80% of medical costs.

And to be successful at anything we have to win the WH and the Senate, plus keep the House.

A more comprehensive system is more desirable IMO. And it you know anything about this country, there will have to be a transition period to universal care as even some Dems will be reluctant to upturn everything, not to mention all the jobs in the insurance, medical and pharma industries that would be lost. The public option would be that transition period.

Not rocket science. We have to have the WH, Senate and House to just get to a public option first.
The public option would be a component to the ACA, which can be revised and improved until we get to a universal care system. And FYI, even in countries with universal care, there are costs for services, nowhere near what we pay here but nothing is entirely free.

And taxes will be much higher.

Sat Apr 4, 2020, 11:59 PM

...with the various abbreviations used around here), but I do agree with the majority of your points on the matter.
I don’t see why, since we already have the most expensive health insurance and health care on the planet, it should cost us even more to have the kind of insurance people in other nations have at a much lower cost? It seems to me that we are already over paying and getting less benefits than we should. The two main selling points of M4A are cost reduction and providing insurance for everyone.
The main reason I support Bernie Sanders regarding this issue is that, even though it is going to be hard to accomplish, (as you have effectively pointed out), I believe any Democrat running for any office should do all he/she can to make M4A a reality in America.
I think the trumpvirus is a good argument in support of M4A. The failures of private, employer based health insurance are more apparent now than they were even two months ago.
I think this is a good time for Democratic candidates to commit to supporting M4A.
While I fully expect Joe Biden will become the Democratic nominee, (and I will be voting for him), I would like to hear him, as heir-apparent leader of the party, make the case that M4A should be one pf the goals of the party.
This is one reason I have no desire to see the debates end now. If Joe Biden changes his position to being fully supportive of M4A I believe his support among Democrats will go up.
As you pointed out, the current form of Medicare has shortcomings. I understand this as I am currently on Medicare. But, any form of universal health insurance in America has to start with something. And, like any other program, it can be improved upon.

Not so fast. You don't seem to recall that during the campaign Warren came out strongly for M4A and how she proposed to pay for it and her poll numbers soon plummeted, and that was among Dem voters. I have to think it went of even more like a lead balloon among independents and never-trumpers who we need to attract.

IMO we should try FDR's and LBJ's approaches. Neither of them ran on New Deal or Great Society plans. They waited until they got in, with House and Senate majorities of course, before they proposed their huge social safety net plans.

And they were successful that way. Why tip your hand on polarizing issues beforehand. We have to be smart.

BS Lost and his surrogates are smearing Joe Biden.. So No.. Biden has much more important issues to deal with that are real.

Sun Apr 5, 2020, 12:10 AM
Apr 2020

The trumpvirus should show why several changes need to happen in America.
M4A should be a target for all Democrats to aim for.
Andrew Yang’s idea of Universal Basic Income,(U.B.I), would help the economy recover. Help should go to the poorest people instead of bailing out failing Capitalist programs every decade.
I think a lot of people are more open to these concepts now than were two months ago.
Besides, any debate among Democrats give people an alternative to the constant lies, propaganda and bull-shit we get on TV these days.

Chapter 3. The Curse of Civil Service Reform

THIS civil service law is the biggest fraud of the age. It is the curse of the nation. There can’t be no real patriotism while it lasts. How are you goin’ to interest our young men in their country if you have no offices to give them when they work for their party? Just look at things in this city today. There are ten thousand good offices, but we can’t get at more than a few hundred of them. How are we goin’ to provide for the thousands of men who worked for the Tammany ticket? It can’t be done. These men were full of patriotism a short time ago. They expected to be servin’ their city, but when we tell them that we can’t place them, do you think their patriotism is goin’ to last? Not much. They say: What’s the use of workin’ for your country anyhow? There’s nothin’ in the game.” And what can they do? I don’t know, but I’ll tell you what I do know. I know more than one young man in past years who worked for the ticket and was just overflowin’ with patriotism, but when he was knocked out by the civil service humbug he got to hate his country and became an Anarchist.

This ain’t no exaggeration. I have good reason for sayin’ that most of the Anarchists in this city today are men who ran up against civil service examinations. Isn’t it enough to make a man sour on his country when he wants to serve it and won’t be allowed unless he answers a lot of fool questions about the number of cubic inches of water in the Atlantic and the quality of sand in the Sahara desert? There was once a bright young man in my district who tackled one of these examinations. The next I heard of him he had settled down in Herr Most’s saloon smokin’ and drinkin’ beer and talkin’ socialism all day. Before that time he had never drank anything but whisky. I knew what was comm’ when a young Irishman drops whisky and takes to beer and long pipes in a German saloon. That young man is today one of the wildest Anarchists in town. And just to think! He might be a patriot but for that cussed civil service.

The issue was patronage, and kickbacks to the machine's coffers. Civil service, at the time, was an attempt to strip the municipal machines of funds, and was resisted accordingly.

But we should probably not spend too much effort on such a sideline in this forum. A good deal of what the man says has a timeless quality, as any well observed disquisition on human affairs will.

PLUNKITT OF TAMMANY HALL

https://www.gutenberg.org/files/2810/2810-h/2810-h.htm

Just read the short "How to Become a Statesman" chapter. His style of writing seems somewhat familiar so maybe I've read some stuff by him before but don't exactly remember.

Anyway, this will be good to read on a tablet when I'm laying down. This is one era of history that I haven't studied too much about before. Danke.

I appreciate the better link. That one I provided was a hurry up search result.
