Biden hosts potential VP pick Gretchen Whitmer on podcast

Former Vice President Joe Biden brought Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) onto his newly launched podcast on Monday, a move that could stoke speculation he’s considering her as a potential running mate.

“Gov. Whitmer is an outstanding governor. She is one of the most talented people in the country in my view,” Biden said while introducing her on the podcast. “She also is a supporter. She was also a co-chair of my campaign. She’s a good friend, but she has been laser focused, laser focused on delivering for her state.”

Biden has already said he plans to choose a woman as his running mate if he wins the Democratic presidential nomination. He has said there are between six and 10 contenders for the role, including Whitmer.

Biden's associates have spoken about the running mate selection process in recent weeks with former Attorney General Eric Holder, who helped lead the effort for former President Obama in 2008. Biden said he has also spoken with Obama about the process.

1. Lots of hints dropping about her, and she'd be a good one, one of the best...

Maybe the best.

But today, if he hadn't promised a woman, Cuomo would be the one to bring out the vote and bring it our way. Gawd, is he looking Presidential these days.

Lessee how it looks in October.

2. I'm afraid Cuomo is too much of a New Yorker* to appeal to voters around the country.

Gretchen Whitmer has two things going for her - she's a woman and she's the governor of a working class mid-western state.

*Not an insult, I'm a native New Yorker, too.

14. Love Cuomo, but he's best staying in NY as the state needs his strong leadership right now

Cuomo can run later for POTUS.

Here is an excerpt from an email from Lawyers for Biden
Vice President Biden launched his podcast "Here's the Deal" this week. As part of Biden's efforts to make experts widely available to the public, he'll regularly interview experts and public leaders on his podcast to discuss the pressing issues impacting families.

Thanks again for all your hard work and we will be in touch soon!

6. She'd probably be good,

as would many.

Wondering about V.P. Biden's reaction to Congressman Clyburn's 'suggestion' the choice should be an African American woman.

9. No! Not Gretchen. Michigan needs her. And we can't afford to lose Democratic Governor

Too much of a risk, they might elect another Republican. Nope Nope Nope, too risky

10. Not sure but I think the Dem lt governor would serve out her term until 2023.

Regardless the benefits of Whitmer as VP probably outweigh the risks of losing her as governor. IMO.

13. Lt Gov Garlin Gilchrist II would do a great job if Gov Whitmer is selected and becomes VP.
