severely anti-gay starting with the black churches and their pastors. We have to be realistic about this.

According to census data, 60.5% of the South Bend population is white, 26.6% is black, 1.3% is Asian, 4.2% are mixed, and 13% are Hispanic or Latino.

Is there any data to back this up? If so, then it's something that should be out there. Not to disqualify Buttigieg from running, but so that we can use it address the root cause of why a particular typically democrat voting demographic isn't voting democrat due to bigoted reasons.

Get the data. If the data checks, then we can come up with actual solutions that don't involve embracing bigotry by discouraging a candidate from running because of their sexual orientation.

Substitute "black" for "gay" or "old" or "woman" or "Jewish" or "Catholic" or "Muslim"...
Aside from racism and sexism, the pervasive bigotry around non-heterosexuality is disgusting already.

I am looking for a president with passion (check), policy ideas that I support (check), a true love of this country (check) AND its people of all races, incomes and any other labels (check).

I want a candidate that is demonstrably smarter and more even keel than me (BIG check on both for Pete!).

I do not care what he does in his personal life, I have no religious nonsense telling me to "hate the sin" or any other such ludicrous concept. I don't respect people of any race or creed that preach hate and division or isolation of the 'other'. I have no religion, but I find Mayor Pete's stated religious / spiritual values to be perfectly compatible with my secular values (which I CANNOT say for any version of evangelical, conservative Christianity at all).

I KNOW in my heart that I will die before the country elects an avowed atheist...but maybe a more toward a more humanitarian vision of Christ and his purported message would be as big a step in that direction as I will see...

Anyway, anyone trying to reach these Emmy-award winners shouldn't be under the illusions that they would vote for ANY Democratic candidate, not JUST the "gay one"...

Wed Apr 17, 2019, 05:52 PM

It was that America was a hell of a lot more bigoted than any of us realized. This election is the MOST IMPORTANT, probably in the history of this country. We CANNOT afford to lose, too much is at stake. As much as I despise bigotry and hatred, this election is NOT the time to try to force this particular battle. I don't think America will survive another 4 years of Trump and this is not a battle I think Democrats would win.

8. long primary season
Wed Apr 17, 2019, 01:32 PM
Apr 2019

At some times I feel the primary season is way too long. There is an argument that a long season is needed to introduce the candidate to the American people. In the case with Mayor Pete, it might take some reluctant voters a year to finally be able to vote for him. Maybe to not feel completely comfortable, but at least pull the lever,
