If impeachment ever reaches the Senate, I have no doubt Bernie would support it but currently he's taking the battle directly to Trump's base, whether it be the FOX town hall or the rust belt states which gave Trump his margin of victory.

the Republicans in control voting down a most needed and popular policy is actually strengthened.

On the other hand a Republican controlled Senate voting down impeachment as Hassin Bin Sober pointed out on post#3 would just hand Trump a victory that would rally his base.

Having continuous hearings on Trump's malfeasance and lies will weaken him.

14. He stated last night that he does NOT support impeachment
Tue Apr 23, 2019, 01:19 PM

Harris staked the position at a CNN town hall in Manchester, N.H., where an hour earlier, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont took a different stance. Sanders, one of Trump’s most vocal critics among the Democratic presidential candidates, said he worried that pursuing impeachment would undercut Democrats’ chances of beating him at the ballot box.

“If for the next year and half all Congress is talking about is Trump, Trump, Trump” rather than issues like healthcare and the minimum wage, he said, “I worry that works for Trump’s advantage.

Sanders also put himself in rare disagreement with Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a 2020 campaign rival who shares most of his progressive views. She was the first major candidate to call for Trump’s impeachment last week after the release of the Mueller report.”

Makes me even more confident that I made the right choice in completely disavowing my support of him in 2016 and choosing from other candidates this time around.

What's comical is -- for all Sanders's excuses about not wanting to impeach Trump because that is all everyone will talk about -- in almost all of his answers last night, he brought up Trump (usually unprovoked). If you are gonna waste time talking about Trump anyway, why the hell not just support impeachment while you're at it?

of actual statements from Bernie on this issue despite the head line but here is a little more from that source.

“If for the next year and half all Congress is talking about is Trump, Trump, Trump” rather than issues like healthcare and the minimum wage, he said, “I worry that works for Trump’s advantage.

(snip)

But Sanders — often considered the most radical candidate in the field — took a more pragmatic approach.

“It goes without saying that the Congress has got to take a hard look and do a hard investigation … so we get to the truth,” he said. “But here is my concern: At the end of the day, what is most important to me is to see that Donald Trump is not reelected president.”

etc. etc. etc. to weaken Trump, not to hand him a potential legislative victory in the Senate.

As Bernie asked Cuomo, where are the Republicans on this issue of impeaching Trump?

I believe this CNN article gives much more nuance and substance to the issue and definitely more of what Bernie actually said as opposed to the highly edited paragraph snippet in your post# 14.

“If for the next year and half all Congress is talking about is Trump, Trump, Trump” rather than issues like healthcare and the minimum wage, he said, “I worry that works for Trump’s advantage.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/128783749

(snip)

Here's the bulk of what Sanders said (it's long, but important):

"At the end of the day, what is most important to me is to see that Donald Trump is not re-elected president, and I intend to do everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen.

"But if -- and this is an if -- if for the next year, year-and-a-half, going right into the heart of the election, all that the Congress is talking about is impeaching Trump and Trump, Trump, Trump, and Mueller, Mueller, Mueller, and we're not talking about health care, we're not talking about raising the minimum wage to a living wage, we're not talking about combating climate change, we're not talking about sexism and racism and homophobia, and all of the issues that concern ordinary Americans, what I worry about is that works to Trump's advantage."

Sanders went on to say that he supports the House conducting an investigation into some of the seemingly obstructive behaviors by Trump documented by Mueller and that, once that investigation concludes, he was open to reassessing.

Miffed with my direct, cited answer to a simple question.

I think that the original question bothered you even more than my response, which could have been simply "He said no to impeachment last night," and would have been a correct answer to that question.

Had the question been more nuanced, then an even more nuanced answer would have been called for.

You seem anxious that people would disagree with Sanders on this.

of what Bernie actually said, your own chopped up paragraph on post #14 being just one example compared to the CNN article which I posted.

Do you believe the Republicans should be held to stake out their positions on impeachment by the corporate media conglomerates or is it just applicable to Democrats?

Do you believe if Bernie came out today and stated that he does favor impeachment now that the Republicans in the Senate would follow suit?

Bernie's strategy is much more effective which will either weaken Trump though continuous investigations and beat him in 2020 or diminish him enough to the point that the Republicans will realize the absolute political toxicity of Trump and start moving toward impeachment.

You are not happy about the question being asked, and you are not happy that it was answered directly, with more nuance than was requested, but clearly it got under your skin.

The scramble to scold me, and the continuing flurry of posts trying to make it look like scolding me for answering that question was somehow reasonable, continues to support that observation.

The tangental questions you fired off to derail my calm return to the question asked and the answer to that question, to get me on the defensive didn't serve their purpose either. And that must really be frustrating.

If you actually believe that Democratic Candidates should come out now in support of impeaching Trump before anymore hearings and investigations; are held to further weaken him, the questions I asked are most fundamental to the issue.

And no, am not obligated to answer any questions you demand that I do, let alone questions that were clearly an effort to get me on the defensive.

A question was asked by someone else in this thread, I answered it correctly. You're welcome.

I have calmly continued to remind you that is all I did, despite repeated efforts on your part to inflate it into an attack on Bernie Sanders (by "selective editing" - see, I did read your posts), any and all Democrats who want hearings prior to any decision to impeach, and reason itself, apparently.

If you did even a rudimentary search of my posts on the topic here on DU, before launching into this offensive, you would be feeling very, very foolish right now, along with being frustrated that I didn't take your bait.

I didn't criticize any article for stating that Bernie was against impeachment at this time, I don't consider that an attack because I support the decision.

My only problem with your article was it being light on the substance of Bernie's actual words or reasoning on the issue, chopping off or heavily editing his message on the subject while also simultaneously using his name in the headline.

The CNN article was superior because it presented a much more complete view of Bernie's words and thoughts.

Peace to you ehrnst.

He learned a whole lot in the 2016 cycle, including about the role of legislative fairs in their impact on the campaign trail.

Trump is a criminal and should be expelled from office but McConnell won't permit it, at least for now. Until the unredacted Mueller report is available to the public, I struggle to see that changing, much as I wish it would.
