A Top Adviser To Beto O'Rourke Has Left His Presidential Campaign

A top adviser to Beto O’Rourke, Becky Bond, has split with his campaign, an O’Rourke spokesperson confirmed.

Bond, a longtime progressive activist and organizer known for her work on O’Rourke’s 2018 Senate bid against Republican Ted Cruz, left the campaign along with her deputy Zack Malitz. Malitz worked closely with Bond on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ first presidential campaign in 2016.

The departures come as O’Rourke, the former Texas congressman, has sought to professionalize a campaign operation that was, in its earliest days, small and freewheeling. O’Rourke announced his run for the presidency less than a month ago

They remain “volunteers” for the O’Rourke campaign, according to Evans.

“They were not only instrumental to the historic Texas Senate race but they agreed to help get us off the ground in this monumental undertaking of running a grassroots campaign for president in every part of the country,” Evans said in a statement on Saturday. “Becky and Zack remain close friends of the campaign, and true to form, they have already joined our army of grassroots volunteers who are signing up for shifts and committing to electing Beto president.”

Makes it sound like they stopped supporting him when nothing could be further from the truth.

Guess the media is still a little butt hurt that he's been choosing to meet voters before doing tv interviews. :p

People move on for various reasons, but in this case they aren't abandoning his campaign.

Beto is playing it smart...build the grassroots and ground game and get out there and meet people, let Biden get in and wait for the oxygen to come back into the room and then show up to knock socks off at the debates. That's when he wants to start making a big splash.

Time will tell though whether or not this is s a mutually pre-planned phased withdrawal. It is unusual for experienced campaign operatives to not hold professional campaign roles in a presidential election year with a wide open primary and lots of candidates looking for experienced paid staff.

7. If they worked on his state campaign maybe they just aren't able to travel nationally

It could be they have little kids or an elderly parent. I would imagine there is a significant difference between working on a state campaign and working on a national one.

Beto surely is making many great moves, he seems a real winner. He is deffo personally out legworking all or most of the other candidates on the ground. He is always out in the field meeting people, giving his ideas a voice. I saw a great video of him in SC touring the statues by the Capitol (some are so bad, cannot believe the old Confederacy has such a grip still).
