Actual problem solving at the local level. Could be used at the federal level.
Cooper: no policy on the website.
SCOTUS reform, Medicare for all, values first before minutiae.

(141,926 posts)for example, constitutional amendment to 'cure' Citizens United.

Not designed to handle tech companies. Empower FTC to block tech companies.

(8,561 posts)Monopolies drive up prescription drug prices and cable service, for example. Good article on it here: https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/02/antimonopoly-big-business/514358/

(12,374 posts)competitors. Then they jack up prices when the competition is gone. We already know that.
He makes a very good observation on the value of our data that the tech companies are using for free. That is going to need to be addressed and fast. He's the only candidate that has shown an awareness of the importance of that data.

(2,461 posts)Do you forsee they will jack up prices? I don't. They are only 'attractive' so long as they are cheap. And they haven't bought up all the natural resources yet that is the stuff of their products. Or will they do that too?

(12,374 posts)They get vendors by the balls and squeeze the life out of them. Some have went bankrupt as a result of their relationship. Sort of like cities giving away their keys to professional sports franchises.
The old "Be careful what you wish for" scenario.

(53,397 posts)He said that anti trust laws were developed in an era when monopolies drove up prices but now they don't and thus we need to reevaluate how we judge what a monopoly is.

(2,461 posts)I just heard the 'free' part re. IT, which is the new beast that needs to be reevaluated. Not traditional sectors. Which is what I'm talking about: Amazon, Walmart. Warren was great on this.

(1,134 posts)Pete is just WAY smarter than any of the others, despite his youth. And Kamala lost me with that "let the inmates vote" nonsense. Bernie started that crapolla, but he was never in my mirror anyway. Amy really impressed me as a deep thinker and with her passion, which I'd never seen before. Rather have more geographical balance, but we already have both coasts, and the midwest is the key to winning. Two Ivy League magna grads--guessing there aren't many better tickets educationally in history!

(2,461 posts)this flew by me and I wanted to hear his explanation again. Seems reasonable. However, not a good day for whistleblowers. But it could have been a personal thing, not necessarily political on the ex-Chiefs part. This isn't something Pete should be dragged into. He was doing his job, I think, in a professional way.

(2,461 posts)I'm slow this morning, so forgive the reply to my own post.
Thinking some more about the 'whistleblower' illegal gathering of information.
No matter the source, are there times when there is a moral obligation to listen to information that could be important in revealing civil rights abuses? Or political corruption? For example, the deep throat leaks - did the illegal drip of highly confidential info make that info verbotten? I guess we're all still having that conversation.
