When candidates consistently poll at 2% or less..

What does that mean for the primary?
Why do those that poll so low stay in?

Castro for instance. I like him. All the candidates are good. But there just isn’t a election there for him.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

There is an entire primary process to to be completed. No candidate has even seen one ballot or caucus yet. Patience.

means even good ones will wind up under 5%. I don’t think low polling should be a deal-breaker at this point, at least not as much as the last cycle, which had only five candidates to divide the pie, then three for a long time, then two.

Plus it’s VERY early. We’ve had a few town halls, but no debates yet. Those will give people a better idea of the whole field and introduce new candidates to the electorate.

or a job after they leave office, or to make themselves more appealing to TV panel shows.

Or to be considered for VP.

There are many potential benefits to running, even if one has no chance to become the nominee.

the top two Republicans in a Zogby (Republican) poll were Chris Christie and Herman Cain, with Ron Paul 3rd. Mitt Romney - the eventual nominee - was 4th.
