TPM: Biden Seems to be wavering on Campaign Launch, May be Postponed

Though former Vice President Joe Biden was widely expected to announce his campaign launch this week, those plans may now be in flux as his team vacillates between different locations and timing options, according to a Monday Philadelphia Inquirer report.

The initial plan, as first reported by the Atlantic, was a video announcement on Wednesday followed by campaign stops in Charlottesville, Virginia then Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s office has reportedly received no permit requests for the big event spaces where Biden would likely speak, if the city was still part of the rollout plan.

To be fair, it's not like he doesn't have time. In this environment I've been convinced that if they don't announce now, than they have no shot. But honestly, that probably isn't actually the case in Biden's case. The only problem is that he can start losing supporters to one of the 19 candidates who have actually declared.

Over last few months Bernie has moved from being outsider thru disruptive force to now odds on favorite for the nomination. Biden likes to play the game when the odds are in his favor and right now they're simply not. I don't blame Biden for that, but thats not the game right now, the odds are against us and we need fighters like Bernie who are ready to go to war. I simply don't think Biden is up for this.

Biden's actually my #2 favorite, but he simply does like to play it safe, which is fine. Different times we need different warriors. Right now IMO we need a risk taker / fighter.

given that his numbers in both polls out today show he's loosing support (at a faster rate than SBS who has gone up since Jan. vs. Biben who has gone down - although SBS seems to have been hit hard from March to April) to Pete.
I think it would be good for him to hold off and wait to see if Pete can hold. It seems a 50/50 chance that Pete will go the way of Beto, and then the centrist wing of the party will flock back to Biden.

I agree with the poster above. He doesn't have to be in a hurry. This way he can keep testing the waters without the travel and $$$.

Hillary did a large, outdoor, rally-style launch which was MUCH more effective and, importantly, memorable.

Bernie's 2019 launch in Brooklyn was a yuge improvement over his milquetoast podium statement outside the Senate during the last cycle. The size of the crowd is proof.
