Democratic Primaries

the right to vote.
Fucking numpty rotters try to truly stir the shit, draw out a massive losing stance, AND carrying water for the Sanderites.
Steve Kornacki can fuck right off.
On edit, the ONLY reason I used the terms Sanderites in this post is that that was the driving force behind the entire segment, the panel was scolding Buttigieg and others for not living up to Bernie's stance. I find that fair game to call out. I am not taking a gratuitous potshot at his DU supporters.
Just wanted to clear that up.

(15,508 posts)that ALL citizens over the age of 18 have a right to vote.
I am not sure I agree with him, while in jail it may be appropriate to lose that right like other rights are lost - freedom to go where you want, etc.
Then again, barring any citizens from voting leaves racist Republicans a way of cutting off rights to some citizens. In some states, jail time means losing the right to vote for the rest of your life, other states block the while in jail and on probation only. Racist states limit rights if at all possible and Sanders does not want to leave wiggle room for denial of rights for anyone.

(23,002 posts)At some point the populace is supposed to go back to their lives. Content that the people we voted in are going to represent us...you know...so we can enjoy our OWN prosperity and life under the Stars and Bars. If we are going to do all the thinking, and leg work, and brain-busting of ideas, who needs representatives who can sell themselves out?
We choose the people. THEY decide some things. Use your best judgement _____(insert any DEMOCRAT here.)
Not our job to answer every question, theirs either.
Our job is to vote, and protest if called to. And be good people. End of story. Even if a murderer votes...the murderers vote next to him can cancel it out. And from what Ive seen, there are some wrongly convicted murderers in our system. Just as an aside. If the wrongly accused do get released, maybe it's not the most Ghandi-esque of things, to have destroyed his/her life while they fought for theirs. (?) Just thinking out loud.
Sounds like another version of....Dems are for Open Borders. It's patently ridiculous.

(43,138 posts)The coercion to vote one way or another (especially pressure from the organised neo-nazi gangs) will be immense.
Prison is removal from mainstream society. One of those rights you forfeit (besides your freedom) is the right to interact with society in general, include the franchise.

(23,002 posts)I mean, how does anyone know how anyone voted unless youre a gop'er 'on the take'. Not like the Warden gets everyone in the gym and gets votes by raised hands..yet. I think it's an inalienable right myself. but, I'm just one person. people feel strongly about it. there ARE wrongly accused.

(3,695 posts)Dem Candidates Need to Say They're Busy Trying to Protect the Vote for Folks Who Aren't Incarcerated to spend time worrying about ballot access for people in prison. Anyone who supports this idea is pandering to whatever slim slice of the electorate who sees this as a problem that needs to be fixed now. I don't.

(10,825 posts)In addition to protecting the vote for folks not incarcerated, we're also trying to protect the country from a wanna-be dictator and fascist takeover. The Republic, The Rule of Law is hanging in the balance. We cannot afford to blow it with nonsensical positions that will be used to beat the Democratic Party and its ultimate nominee over the head in 2020.

(10,106 posts)Florida voters approved a constitutional initiative last November restoring voting rights to 1.4 million ex-felons, 64.55% to 35.45%. It would have restored the vote to ex-felons upon completion of their sentences, including prison, parole, and probation, except those convicted of murder or a felony sexual offense. Then Florida House Republicans passed a bill requiring ex-felons pay old court costs before having their voting rights restored.
Even though the initiative passed by a margin of 30 points, Republicans are doing everything they can to prevent ex-felons from voting. What realistic chance does a law allowing prisoners to vote while serving sentences have of passage? Yet certain people toss this stuff out there so liberals will take the bait, waste time arguing about it and look like fools.
