The HillFormer Vice President Joe Biden, who Thursday announced a presidential bid, spoke with Anita Hill, a Biden campaign aide said Thursday.
"They have spoken," campaign aide Kate Bedingfield said on CNN. She declined to give more information on the "private discussion."
Hill accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his Supreme Court confirmation hearing in 1991.
Thomas has denied her allegations. Hill's treatment during the hearing by Biden, who was then chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has come under scrutiny in light of the #MeToo movement and heightened weight on sexual misconduct claims.
Bedingfield touted also Biden's later actions on women's issues including his advocacy for women to join the Senate Judiciary committee and his support for Violence Against Women Act.
Biden said last month that he wished he could have done something about Hill's treatment during the hearing.

(12,511 posts)and it pisses me off big time that he was able to retire from office, after decades of mooching a paycheck from us, still scoffing and laughing in women's faces. This asshole prodded Biden to ignore other witnesses.
It's just not right. I'm finding it hard to remain civilized when I want to burst into the elevator and slap that MF'er right across that smart ass face.

(13,390 posts)I think he did the right thing when he cancelled the Charlotte event. I cringed when I saw that he was planning it, because it seemed creepily opportunistic. This is even worse given the long history of Black women being exploited by white men.

(28,290 posts)Too late anyway. The advent of Kavanaugh only compounded Biden's damage - and re-opened those wounds. Bleeding seriously now.

(94,792 posts)WASHINGTON Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. called Anita Hill earlier this month to express his regret over what she endured testifying against Justice Clarence Thomas at the 1991 Supreme Court hearings that put a spotlight on sexual harassment of women, according to a spokeswoman for Mr. Biden.
But Ms. Hill, in an interview Wednesday, said she left the conversation feeling deeply unsatisfied and declined to characterize his words to her as an apology. She said she is not convinced that Mr. Biden truly accepts the harm he caused her and other women who suffered sexual harassment and gender violence.
I cannot be satisfied by simply saying Im sorry for what happened to you. I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose, she said.
