John Hickenlooper is running as himself. (Uh-oh)

Below is quite a lengthy, warts-and-all, perfectly fair assessment of John Hickenlooper and his candidacy that appeared on Politico last week. Whether it is possible to be genuinely authentic, run as yourself, and still do well, is a reasonable question to pose.

A two-term governor of a purple state, who had to govern with a Republican legislature; a two-term mayor of a major city; a successful entrepreneur; a geologist, who brings a scientific mindset to problem solving; a man who made the shortlist for Hillary's vice-presidential nominee. It is an impressive resume, with a wealth of experience that dwarfs that of many of the more touted candidates in the race.

But in today's race, and today's climate, does he have a shot?

I'd like to think that he does have a shot. Colorado prospered in the 8 years he was the governor of my state - I especially like how healthcare here has improved under his leadership, and I like the idea of having someone trained in the sciences at the helm of our country as we deal with the existential threat of global warming. Hickenlooper has been able to reach across the aisle and work with members of both parties during both his stint as Denver's mayor and as Colorado's governor. He's a dark horse in the presidential race, but one it wouldn't hurt to place a bet on to win. He's honest, steadfast and very real - qualities you seldom encounter in today's political scene.

I'd love to see him go toe to toe with tRump - Hickenlooper is his polar opposite in every way. Time will tell, but at this point he has my complete support!
