We called them me guys. And we have a me guy in Ted Cruz representing us in the Senate right now."
I must say this is the first time I've seen him, he's a very impressive candidate!

(255,542 posts)Though the priority is obviously to replace Ted Cruz, I can't believe that anyone actually likes him. When I saw Al Franken a couple of years ago when his tour came to my area (Albany, NY), it was no surprise that many of his jokes were about Ted Cruz ("I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz." ) - and he impersonated Mitch McConnell.

(2,958 posts)Such a talent, it still irks me that so many turned against him, and even more that he didn't fight back. I firmly believe he was not only a dedicated and hard worker in the Senate but was truly altruistic as well. There are very few of those around in this day and age.

And he did mention SNL, but mostly talked about his time in the Senate. He said that while his Committee was waiting, Dianne Feinstein would often ask him to tell a joke and there was some arguing since not everybody 'got it."
And while he was speaking, he drew one of his famous freehand sketches of the United States and offered to sign it and donate it to a local Democratic charity. He got a standing ovation at the end and there were calls for him to run again. I sure agree that we lost one of our best and brightest when he stepped down.

(2,958 posts)but it was a bit different than his other performances on the tour. He was at our local Jewish Community Center, and it was a one-on-one interview, so a lot of back and forth. Two chairs, one table with water. A week or so after the performance I was trying to find out the interviewer's name, because he was really good, almost like they were traveling together, but when I went to their site his name didn't show up. I'm thinking he was associated with the JCC.
In the main, it followed close to what you said, he mentioned a lot about his time in the Senate vs. SNL, had a great interaction with Feinstein etc. We saw him shortly after the Oct 7th attack, and given the venue he did talk a bit about this. He was in favor of a two-state solution and was very pro IDF.

(255,542 posts)I saw him as part of his National Tour Tour and I was amazed that he appeared at a site that close to me. Despite it being the Capital, it's pretty far Upstate. But his reception was awesome, as I said it was completely sold out. I'm thinking that it was November 2021 since masks were required and there were still sites which were yet to reopen. It sounds like you saw a terrific interview!
