A new U.N.-backed report has found that famine is imminent in northern Gaza with nearly a third of Gaza's population experiencing the highest levels of catastrophic hunger. This comes as Israel launches another major raid at Al-Shifa Hospital, where tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians have taken shelter since the start of the conflict. In the south, daily bombing continues while the Israeli government threatens a full-scale ground invasion on the border city of Rafah. "The world should impose sanctions on Israel," says the Palestinian National Initiative's Mustafa Barghouti, who joins us from the occupied West Bank. Barghouti responds to Israel's latest military actions and claims, gives an update on the status of ceasefire negotiations, addresses conditions in Israeli prisons and more. "It's a massacre. It's a huge genocide," he says. "The ultimate goal of Israel is ethnic cleansing."

(10,545 posts)Ethnic cleansing is nothing more than a somewhat sanitized version of killing people to take their land. Here is a quote from Wikipedia by David Ben-Gurion. Pay attention to the last sentence and the goal of liberating the entire country, which was to take the whole land for Israel. In other quotes, Ben-Gurion approved ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians.
"Does the establishment of a Jewish state [in only part of Palestine] advance or retard the conversion of this country into a Jewish country? My assumption (which is why I am a fervent proponent of a state, even though it is now linked to partition) is that a Jewish state on only part of the land is not the end but the beginning.... This is because this increase in possession is of consequence not only in itself, but because through it we increase our strength, and every increase in strength helps in the possession of the land as a whole. The establishment of a state, even if only on a portion of the land, is the maximal reinforcement of our strength at the present time and a powerful boost to our historical endeavors to liberate the entire country".[9]

(88,032 posts)ALL treaties and agreements with israel and do some serious trimming of aid to them since they are into genocide and all. I have lost any and all positive regard I once had for that group.

(2,047 posts)I knew that ship. That was in the Six-Day War, June of '67. Attacked by IDF jets, an unarmed Intelligence ship in Int'l waters 100 miles off Gaza, broad daylight, flying American flags. Then their patrol boats machine-gunned the US Navy sailors in the water.
Oops, they later said. An error. Hey.

(2,464 posts)I mean, can you think of anything less likely to work than sanctions against a terrorist organization?

(11,645 posts)but terrorist organizations DO get their funding from someplace. (with Hamas as an exemplar) And when that 'someplace' is part of the international order (states, financials, shipping, trade .. )
