(255,526 posts)I've never been good with bridges. I remember back in the '80s going with my parents on the longest bridge I've ever experienced, headed to my uncle's in Maryland, and I sat in the back on the floor.

Baltimore harbor is quite a place, more complex than most.

That's how long it took for the whole thing to come down.
I used to drive over that bridge a lot, for a couple years, right after it was built. I used to have nightmares about bridges collapsing while I was driving across in a semi, There was one semi that made it all the way across about a half minute before the collision. Looks like three may have been four or five cars on the bridge.
Where were the tugs? Odd that a ship would not have tugs guiding under the bridge.

(255,526 posts)And that was mighty quick, at least it late night and not rush hour. And I did see the semi in the film, I was hoping that they all made it. I'm wondering if the ship was alone since it was so late at night? This is the biggest story of the day from what we've heard on the news. I sure hope they manage to rescue everyone, it sure happened fast.

Those people in those cars! They had to have known as they went down. I'll be surprised if they find anymore survivors.
It is good that it was late with low traffic flow. I'm glad I have therapy later this morning, I hate waking up to horribly tragic news like this.

(255,526 posts)The first news from MSNBC said that they'd rescued two, one was transported to the hospital and one was uninjured - but they likely weren't in vehicles, they said that there was a crew working on the bridge. And I hate news like this, too. I hadn't thought about it for ages, but some distant relatives of my grandmother were lost the same way, when the Schoharie Creek Bridge in the county south of here collapsed while they were driving over it, a mother and daughter. I didn't know them, but my grandmother knew the family and I'd met their aunt who my grandmother grew up with. It upset me at the time - 1987. And I have therapy tomorrow.
