OP
Was the turbulence a complete surprise, they usually warn passengers in advance.

But this this turbulence clearly sounds extraordinary! And this was yet another Boeing...

(80,402 posts)3. I always keep my seatbelt on when I fly.
I grew up as a US Air Force military kid and that is what they taught
the kids to do on military flights as we were being transported to new postings.
Wonder Why
(6,637 posts)4. Boeing is guilty of a lot of things but there is no evidence I see that the plane being a Boeing has anything to do with
the Singapore Airlines flight problems. Don't know why the news source put that in the opening "reporter" statement instead of saying that it was a Singapore Airlines flight.

(8,887 posts)5. My understanding is that the passenger who died . . .
. . . did not die of injuries sustained from the turbulence, but had a heart condition, and the stress of the situation is what triggered a heart attack.

But I still don't know why the seatbelt light hadn't gone on, I've experienced that in much less traumatic conditions.
