Former President Donald Trump threatened a tariff on Mexican goods over the flow of drugs and illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump's remarks in North Carolina occurred just hours before Election Day. Semafor's David Weigel joins CBS News with more.

3. Mexican goods... us manufactured goods made in mexico...

We dont import a lot of mexican goods. Some food products. Some clothing. But a large percentage are cars and manufactured goods made by us companies in plants they own in mexico.

That will raise the cost of domestic products significantly.

Also the cost of food, including meat, poultry and dairy since feed and livestock also are imported.

What an arse.

Besides, we pay those costs, not mexico.

less than $ 1 billion of feed, less than 6% of dairy products, and 12% of beef (while exporting 12.5%) 44 million tons of poultry (2022) and this import is from all over, not just Mexico (largest portion of beef from Canada, for example)
