Peaked in 2006 during a housing boom (bubble). Down a little the next year, then crashed in 2008 when the housing bubble burst and lots and lots of houses ended up abandoned. Continued to decline, and then came the pandemic in 2020. Since then, nobody wants to touch mail.

Also, in 2006 a first class stamp was 39 cents. Now it's 78 cents.

Still, while UPS and FedEX lobby to take over parcel delivery, no one wants to deliver mail to every address every day.
