'Absolutely Ridiculous': GOP Rep calls on Johnson to bring back House amid shutdown - The Weekend Primetime MSNBC

Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley of California joins The Weekend: Primetime to talk about on why he's actively calling on Speaker Mike Johnson to bring back the House of Representatives amid the government shutdown. "We're now four straight weeks that the House of Representatives was scheduled to be there, doing the work of the people, holding Oversight hearings, working on legislation," Kiley says. "All of it has just been cancelled for no discernible reason that I can really understand." - Aired on 10/19/2025.

...all they gotta do is join the Dems.

So far Riley and MTG supposedly support this. We just need one more and somebody to swear in Grijalva in lieu of the speaker...

Ya know: if theyre serious

They could still remain ideologically conservative while allowing the government to operate. It might even enhance some chances of re-election in swing districts.

So those reps can certainly show up per se, but nothing changes given Johnson's obstinance and refusal to reconvene the House. If his Speakership was put in jeopardy as a result of the current standoff, he might decide to change his tune. But again, that would require some degree of courage on the part of his partisans in Congress. As it stands, the two-party system, absent anything resembling a pragmatic coalition, is a recipe for gridlock and the inevitable bad consequences that accompany it.
