Zelensky: We do not have the strength to retake Crimea - CNN

Following President Donald Trump’s claim that Ukraine is “losing” the war against Russia’s ongoing invasion and that Moscow now has the “upper hand,” multiple officials told CNN there are no new US or European assessments suggesting there have been significant changes on the battlefield and they don’t see any indications President Vladimir Putin’s forces are likely to win the conflict quickly. Ukraine is ready to hold elections in the next 60 to 90 days if its allies can guarantee security for the vote, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday. Following a meeting with European leaders this week, Zelensky said he expects Ukraine will hand over an updated peace proposal to the US on Wednesday.

CNN correspondent Clare Sebastian and CNN chief national security analyst Jim Sciutto report.

While the EU is on the right track, it has neither the will nor the wherewithal to guarantee Kyiv's safety or assure return of Crimea and other lost lands without US backing. Trump is a disaster for Ukraine and a gift to Putin. Even with a Dem victory in the midterms this is not likely to change for the better.
