On the fifth anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack at the US Capitol, the facts of the day continue to fuel deep divisions that have created dueling political realities. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has declined to hang a plaque honoring Capitol Police officers, which was mandated to be installed by 2023. (14,610 posts)Garland should have held a press conference, and said clearly and forcefully, that Donald J Trump will be charged with insurrection against the USA. And the investigation would commence immediately. Because the country simply cannot allow this to go unanswered or delayed. And made sure Jack Smith had his day in court during Biden's term.
Should have had someone like Fanny Willis in there. Or anybody else but Garland.

(126,244 posts)Garland was not attorney general and nobody in the Biden administration was in office. It was on January 7 that Biden announced that he was appointing Garland as AG and taking such a bold stance at that time probably would have tanked him during the nomination process.
It's also Fani Willis, not Fanny (that's a slur used by MAGA folk).
