Some Republicans broke with their party and voted to undo some of the damage they've done to the American people by stripping them of health insurance subsidies. - 01/09/2026.

1. Although I'll cheer for any Republican that turns against Trump

they should have made that decision a long time ago. Party above country doesn’t cut it with me.

2. My guess is they are more worried about the wrath of We, the People, at the polls in November

and their own skins than they are about doing the right thing.

Many of them represent districts where a lot of their voters rely on food stamps, Obama care, Medicare, ss, etc. (these are the same voters who vote against their own interests, but is a whole different conversation for another thread). While most politicians will pal around with wealthy donors, they know if they don't throw a few scraps to their poorer voters, they could be voted out.

4. The insurance lobby stepped in

to protect the flow of public funds to the for-profit health insurance industry.

Health care needs to be affordable; no one NEEDS insurance. I know it's a bit naive to think this way but I am allowed to dream.
