Let's talk about Trump's first year as a failure according to polling.... - Belle of the Ranch
Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump's first year as a failure according to polling.
A poll asked Americans, "Do you consider the first year of Trump's second term as president to be?" Then it gave the options of success, failure, or don't know. The results are absolutely devastating for Trump and those in the Congress who are trying to ride his coattails. The lame duck says quack.
Devastating is one of those hyperbolic terms we try not to use, but I don't know how else to describe this. 58% of Americans called Trump's first year a failure. But as bad as that is, that's not the worst part. When you get into the demographic breakdowns, it's just wow, bad. 50% or higher called his first year a failure in the following demographics. Men, women, white people, people of color, every single age bracket, those who make below $50K, those who make above $50K, non-college grads, college grads. I could keep going, but let's just keep it short.
Other than when looking at political affiliation, the only demographic that doesn't think Trump failed in his first year was white non -college grads. 55% of white non-college grads think Trump's first year was a success. That's it. For context, 59% of white college grads say he failed.
When you get into party leanings, it's actually not much better. Obviously, Democrats were high. 93% of Democrats think he failed. But even out of those who identify as Republican, more than one out of 10 think he failed. Independents have absolutely turned on Trump with 66% saying he failed.
When you're looking at political leanings rather than party, it's still not better. 92% of liberals say he failed. 65% of moderates say he failed. And 24% of conservatives think he failed. Almost one out of four. Again, devastating is the only word to use here.
When the question was about whether or not Trump had the right priorities, it's even worse. A majority of every single nonpartisan demographic said he hasn't paid enough attention to the country's most important problems. Gender, age, income, education, everything. He even lost white non-college grads here. 54% of them said he had the wrong priorities. When you look at the party breakdowns, even about one out of five Republicans think he's got his priorities wrong and about one out of three of those who identify as conservative feel that way.
Republicans in Congress who co-sign his priorities have got to be sweating bullets over this.
Okay. But what about the thing that motivates many voters? It's the economy. stupid. 61% disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy. He loses every non-political demographic again with the exception of white non-college grads. But even there, he's at 49% disapproval.
With the midterms just 10 months away, the Republican party is being read as the party that said, "Screw the commoners, their health insurance, and don't even let them eat cake. No sugar for you, poor person." I don't think Trump is going to let the party message with anything counter to his policies, which overwhelming majorities are calling a failure. Congressional Republicans may have to choose between supporting Trump's policies and getting reelected.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
