What happens when a powerful leader encounters resistance from someone who was supposed to stay loyal?

In this video, I break down the Trump–Meloni conflict through the lens of political psychology. This isn’t really a story about a photo, a diplomatic disagreement, or even Italy. It’s a story about power, status, loyalty, humiliation, and what happens when someone refuses to play the role they’ve been assigned.

We’ll explore:

• Why former allies often become bigger targets than lifelong opponents
• The psychology of public humiliation and dominance
• Why strong leaders react differently to criticism from insiders
• What an “extinction burst” is and why it matters in politics
• Why people are drawn to strongman personalities during uncertain times

• Why moments of public resistance can have consequences far beyond the people involved

As a psychologist, I’m less interested in the personalities involved and more interested in the patterns. Because this dynamic didn’t start with Trump, and it won’t end with Trump. It is one of the oldest patterns in human history.
