i will not fly unless they actually force me on a plane at gunpoint. (sound unlikely? it happened to us in 2005.)

it will take a lot to get me on another one. I've been fortunate to travel to three continents and 33 countries since age 5. So there's not a lot of interest at this point, esp with the lack of regulation and risks.

They even smell alike as you go down the chute, that kerosene diesel exhaust smell. And really, it IS like a series of flying buses where you have to wait at the stop for the next flying bus so you can reach your destination. "Greyhound of the Sky" has a different connotation now but it still fits.

To pursue what he really loved, flying. He became a pilot for TWA at the start of the jet age. And his angry and dismissive father, who was echoed by TFG, used to call him "a bus driver in the sky." That son was Mary Trump's father and she talked about it in her book.

I've never been an enthusiastic flyer, but I recognize that it's sometimes necessary, like if your destination is overseas. But I haven't flown since before 9/11, from what you said, I'm not missing much.
