It will be a bad, sad day when Robert Reich no longer educates us about the threats to representative democracy.

All he has to do is explain and expose the facts of American life. And that's what he consistently does.

Maybe it's the simplicity of these facts which prevent some in our "sophisticated" society from appreciating and prudently reacting to their profound importance. After all, we're constantly reminded of truth's unnatural camouflage and "unreliability" with every annoying robo-call to our cell phones. We are well trained in mistrust and inured by cynicism.

Of course, there's also the possibility that most are so preoccupied with greed, envy and entertainment they just can't stop their habitual contributions to planetary delinquency or the acceptance thereof. They're those we'll find who consider even commonsense regulation of their petty or bad behavior a blatant violation of their "God-given" rights (which is an affront to God, by God!). So deliciously mockable, they are.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
