(61,033 posts)How much longer does the American public have to be subjected to the public, self-humiliations of Rep. Bobo who not only misunderstood the term she attempted to use, she also miss-pronounced it?

(255,037 posts)But she didn't count on having that amount of competition. It's an empty seat since Rep. Ken Buck is retiring. However, Boebert faces 5 other Republicans in the June 25th primary.

(81,119 posts)Cognitive dissonance is a theory developed by famous psychologist Leon Festinger. (He also conducted the first research on cult behavior which is connected to his ideas about cognitive dissonance as you will see.)
Cognitive dissonance is the mental discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs, values, or attitudes. People like consistency in their attitudes and perceptions, so this conflict causes unpleasant feelings of unease or discomfort. To reduce this discomfort people then alter their thoughts and attitudes. They reject or explain away new information. And begin to rationalize their behavior.
We see his happen all the time with the Trump cult members. They twist themselves into knots praising Trump and rejecting all of the very damning facts about him as lies. Or they embrace the damning facts and make them virtues. Their mental gymnastics are astounding.
Competency evaluations are something altogether different. A person undergoes a formal evaluation, a clinical interview and asked to complete pencil and paper tests, standardized tests to determine cognitive functioning compared to their same age peer group.

Dr. Phillip Zimbardo is another famous psychologist who studied why good people do bad things.
His Stanford Prison experiment is famous, normal subjects were asked to pretend to be prison guards, they quickly descend into violence and abuse.

(255,037 posts)Though Boebert doesn't even live there. She thought it would be an easier win, but now she faces the primary in June and FIVE other Republicans are running, and she's not doing well. So it looks like her fellow female clown in Congress may be performing alone after this fall. And my cousin will be relieved.
