Fascism Won't Be What You Expect... w/ Michael Tomasky - Thom Hartmann

When fascism arrives in America, it will arrive holding the bible, wrapped in the flag and most Americans won’t even notice it’s here… - Aired on 05/22/2024.

sudden tectonic shift in life here. Bad things happen because there are bad people in the wrong place at the wrong time, and as we see with Trump's trials, there are a wide spectrum of those who will ignore, excuse, enable or assist.
I was part of the response to the BP spill and because everyone is working in rather large rooms and having frequent meetings, I was able to observe how things went from start to action. I learned that results you get are the final conglomeration of all the actions of the individuals involved. Kind of like vector addition in physics, you take into account the force or speed and direction and add them together. Some people have more "force" due to their position, but even that can be somewhat negated by the unwillingness or reluctance of others to follow. If I was a tad smarter, I know there is a book there somewhere. In this case there were actually BP employees doing their best to protect the environment and a few government employees hell bent on protecting BP.
So instead of pretending that this is something that is going to happen "someday", we need to start attacking the infestation that is already here. Step one would be to eliminate the perverse ideas that corporations are people and money is speach. Then tax the hell out of the billionaires until they don't exist anymore. Then stop the secret hobnobbing the wealthy do as in the judicial retreats, the luxury vacations, etc.
I know those are big things and I'm sure many will want to tell me how impossible they are, but if I had cancer, I'd rather the doctor didn't say that some was left behind because getting it would be too hard. We can get there by targeting the worst offenders for removal from office. I've seen that happen when contributions from around the country took on some horrible politicians (such as Richard Pombo). We also need to admit that every politician with a D behind their name isn't necessarily perfect and write letters or take other action to redirect them. This is supposed to be government by THE PEOPLE.
Sorry, got a bit spun up there. Rant off.
