WASHINGTON -- President Bush took half of a widely used but controversial sleeping pill, Halcion, while in Japan to help cope with jet lag.
Bush told a television interviewer Wednesday he took the medication because he was having difficulty sleeping. Japan time is 14 hours ahead of the United States.
Shortly after his collapse at a state dinner from what doctors said was intestinal flu, Bush also was treated with Tigan to hold down nausea.
Halcion is one of the most widely prescribed medications worldwide, with sales of the drug reported strong in 90 countries until it was banned in Britain and several other countries on Oct. 2.
