1. This is the "heartbeat away" from Trump guy

Like Trump, he recreates recent events to suit whatever is dribbling out of his mouth at the moment -- but he lacks the stammering, spooneristic panache of the Great Liar. Dammit, Jadie, no one ever said that every single person involved on the Confederate side of the Civil War was a turd sucking slaver or slavery-adjacent sadist. Just most of them.

I'm not saying Vance's stance on this subject makes him a racist, but it certainly reflects a racist's viewpoint. Just like the fact that Trump's comments about what he called the "good things" that Hitler did doesn't absolutely make him a Nazi or Nazi sympathizer, but his praise of Hitler certainly reflects a Nazi viewpoint. (Although I have often thought that Trump's affinity with Adolf may not be political so much as the fact that, like Trump, Hitler had a tiny penis.)
