I thought he was not allowed to operate personal businesses while in the White House. President Carter had to turn over his family business to a management company while he was in the White House and when he and Rosalynn returned to Plains after his presidency, he discovered that the family farm was facing bankruptcy and he had to sell the Carter Warehouse to keep from losing it.
