Jay Carney: Obama supports Hillary Clinton

Jay's a previous WH press secretary.

"I don't think there is any doubt that he wants Hillary to win the nomination and believes that she would be the best candidate in the fall and the most effective as president in carrying forward what he's achieved," said Carney, a CNN contributor.

Carney said Obama won't make an official endorsement until the race is decided, but his intentions are clear.

"I think the President has signaled, while still remaining neutral, that he supports Secretary Clinton's candidacy and would prefer to see her as the nominee," Carney said. "He won't officially embrace her unless and until it's clear that she's going to be the nominee. I think he is maintaining that tradition of not intervening in a party primary."

Traditionally, presidents don't make primary endorsements.

Congressional Black Caucus to formally endorse Clinton on Thursday

The Congressional Black Caucus is rushing to defend Hillary Clinton, following what many black lawmakers said was an expected loss in New Hampshire but one that should not hurt her in the next round of voting.

On Thursday morning, the CBC’s leaders will appear at the Democratic National Committee to formally endorse Clinton for president, through the CBC political action committee. The group will then disburse its African-American lawmakers to states where black voters are crucial, particularly in South Carolina’s Democratic primary on Feb. 27.

“It’s one thing to endorse and do nothing. It’s another thing to endorse and to go to work,” said Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), chairman of the CBC PAC. These lawmakers are, Meeks said, “people that can actually testify [to] the work that Hillary Clinton has done.”

Sandra Bland's mother to campaign for Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton will campaign next week with the mother of Sandra Bland, the Chicago-area woman who was discovered hanged in her jail cell three days after being pulled over for a routine traffic stop near Houston.

Geneva Reed-Veal will join the Democratic presidential candidate at a Feb. 17 voter mobilization event in Chicago. Bland's death has become a symbol of the racial inequalities in the criminal justice system. Her family, black leaders and other activists have questioned her treatment by white law enforcement officers and the determination she committed suicide.
...
Other African-American mothers whose children were victims of gun violence, including Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner; Maria Hamilton, mother of Dontre Hamilton; and Lucy McBath, mother of Jordan Davis; are planning to campaign for Clinton in South Carolina in the coming weeks.

Campaigning for Hillary, Bill Clinton pulls out all the stops

“When you’re making a revolution, you can’t be too careful with the facts,” he told the crowd of just under 300 who came to hear him speak Sunday afternoon.......

Without mentioning Sanders by name, Clinton recited a laundry list of double standards and lack of details in policy proposals he has identified in Sanders’ campaign — and labeled “her opponent the champion of all things small and the enemy of all things big.”.....

“The New Hampshire I campaigned in really cared that you knew what you were doing, and how it was paid for,” said Clinton, after ripping into Sanders’ universal healthcare plan and free college for all proposals as impossible to fund.

After explaining how Sanders has wiggled around on the details of his single-payer plan he said: “It is good for America, I don’t think so. Is it good for New Hampshire? I don’t think so. The New Hampshire I knew would not have voted for me if I had done that.”
Clinton accused Sanders of hypocrisy for portraying his wife as beholden to Wall Street because of campaign donations and speaking fees she has accepted from firms like Goldman Sachs. He said he “frankly, fell out of my chair” after reading a CNN report that Sanders has been a prolific Democratic fundraiser, raising cash from the financial sector at retreats in Palm Beach and Martha’s Vineyard. “Anybody who takes money from Goldman Sachs couldn’t possibly be President,” Clinton said. “He may have to tweak that answer a little bit, or we may have to get a write-in candidate.”.....

Clinton didn't stop there. He launched into a discussion of the ugly “Bernie Bro” phenomenon that the Sanders campaign has denounced — backers who harass female Clinton supporters online and accuse them of “voting with their vagina” and call them “bitches.” Clinton called them “vicious trolling and attacks that are literally too profane ... not to mention sexist.”.........MORE

Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton wins backing of S.C. LGBT rights group

COLUMBIA
South Carolina’s most prominent LGBT advocacy group has endorsed Hillary Clinton in the S.C. Democratic presidential primary.

“Hillary Clinton has a decades-long record of fighting for equality and has demonstrated her belief that our country is at its best when we are inclusive and open,” said Jeff Ayers, S.C. Equality Coalition executive director.

“She knows our fight for equal rights is far from finished, which is why we need her leadership as we continue to make progress,”Ayers said, citing Clinton’s work fighting AIDS and promoting protections for the lesbian-gay-bisexual-and-transgender community as reasons she won the group’s backing.

Malissa Burnette, who chairs S.C. Equality’s board of directors, said the decision to endorse Clinton was unanimous. “It is refreshing and rare to find a candidate who is unequivocal and fearless in her support of equality for all.”

This, on supporting Hillary: This Progressive Doesn’t Need Your Lectures

Connie Schultz writes...

Have I mentioned lately how much I’m enjoying the lectures from self-avowed liberals who insist my respect for Hillary Clinton is proof that I am not a “real progressive”?

I haven’t had this much fun since I had my sinuses packed with 40 miles of gauze after polyp surgery.

It’s not just men — my sisters, you disappoint me — but it’s particularly entertaining when the reprimands come from young white men who were still braying for their blankies when I started getting paid to give my opinion. They popped out special, I guess.

I became a columnist in the fall of 2002. Immediately, I found myself on the receiving end of right-wing vitriol so vile it made “The Sopranos” cuddly by comparison. My first death threats came within weeks, after I wrote that the Confederate flag should be retired. After I supported stronger gun control measures, an NRA zealot posted on a gun blog what he thought was my home address and identified me as “unarmed.” I was a single mother at the time. I bought new locks and kept writing.

.............more more oh more which you should read................

Clinton Gains Support From 170 African American Women Leaders

...All of these black women will rally African American voters around Clinton's candidacy in the upcoming South Carolina primary on Feb. 27 and March primary states.

The women will serve as surrogates for Clinton, a Democrat, and according to the campaign, they will host debate watch parties, neighborhood meetings, and women-only phone banks.........

Some of the black women leaders who endorsed Clinton include, actress Angela Bassett; Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner, who was killed by police in New York; actress Vivica Fox; Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in Florida; Alexis Herman, former Secretary of Labor; Alice Huffman, an NAACP board member; Shonda Rhimes, Executive Producer of the hit television show "Scandal"; actress Holly Robinson-Peete; and Democrats Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington D.C.; Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas; Rep. Maxine Waters of California; and Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland.
.........
For his part, Sanders still insists that he can attract a sizable portion of the black vote, but it's a daunting challenge for Sanders considering Clinton has longstanding relationships in the black community, dating back to when her husband, Bill Clinton, was in the White House.

"Hillary knows the reality of women earning less than men, confronting barriers to advancing in the workforce, and politicians interfering with a woman's right to make her own health care decisions is even starker for African American women,"........

Hillary has a new anger translater

These are snips from "An All-Caps Explosion of Feelings Regarding the Liberal Backlash Against Hillary Clinton"

So good. I think the author is the one on the right?

......So since Hillary cannot yell, since by the virtue of being sane and not a white man she is forced to be the biggest adult in the room, just like Obama has had to for eight goddamn years, I will yell for her.

FIRST AND FUCKING FOREMOST, COOL, YOU LIKE BERNIE'S WISHES AND DREAMS APPROACH TO POLITICS. "FREE COLLEGE FOR EVERYONE AND A GODDAMN PONY." YES, THAT SOUNDS FUCKING WONDERFUL BUT DO YOU THINK HILLARY COULD EVEN SAY THOSE WORDS WITHOUT FOX NEWS LITERALLY BURYING HER ALIVE IN TAMPONS AND CRUCIFIXES?
....

YOU DON'T LIKE THAT SHE PLAYS THE GAME? THAT SHE HAS TIES TO THE ESTABLISHMENT? FOR ONE THING, THAT'S HOW SHIT FUCKING GETS DONE. FOR THE OTHER THING, THE BIGGEST THING, A WOMAN DOESN'T GET THE FUCKING OPTION *NOT* TO PLAY THE GAME. NOT NOW. NOT YET. WE ALL WISH THINGS WERE DIFFERENT BUT THEY DON'T BECOME DIFFERENT WHILE WE'RE ATTACKING THE FUCKING PERSON WHO CAN MAKE THAT POSSIBLE.
...

IT IS ABSOLUTELY GUT WRENCHING THAT THIS BADASS, IMPORTANT WOMAN HAS BEEN DIMINSHED AND WRITTEN OFF AND HATED HER WHOLE CAREER, HER WHOLE EXISTENCE AS A PUBLIC FIGURE. YOU LIKE BERNIE BECAUSE HE DOESN'T PLAY THE GAME, BUT FOR HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON, FOR A WOMAN, SHE HAS HAD NO OTHER CHOICE.
BUT THOSE WHO COME AFTER HER MIGHT.
