Las Vegas Raiders cut 2020 first-round CB Damon Arnette after video with death threats

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32584857/las-vegas-raiders-cut-ex-first-round-cb-damon-arnette-video-death-threats

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The Las Vegas Raiders have waived second-year cornerback Damon Arnette, a first-round pick in 2020, after video surfaced this weekend of Arnette making death threats while brandishing firearms.

Arnette, 25, had been on injured reserve since Oct. 9. He is also facing lawsuits stemming from a Las Vegas car accident last October.

Mayock added that he had talked with Arnette, his father and others in his life and "from my perspective, he's a very talented young man with a good heart. He cleans up his life, I know he can make a living in the NFL. But not now, with the Raiders."

Mayock acknowledged there was "significant concern" over Arnette's character coming out of college, but the Raiders felt they could help him on and off the field and knew the Ohio State coaching staff well enough to trust its advice and take on Arnette.

At least 13 Trump officials illegally campaigned while in office, federal investigation finds

Source: Washington Post

At least 13 senior Trump administration officials illegally mixed governing with campaigning before the 2020 election, intentionally ignoring a law that prohibits merging the two and getting approval to break it, a federal investigation released Tuesday found.

The Office of Special Counsel, led by a Republican appointed by Trump, lays out a series of violations that the authors underscore were not innocent mistakes or slips of the tongue.

No punishment is expected to be assessed because, by most legal interpretations, the president in office at the time is the only person who can take action to fire or reprimand his political appointees when they act illegally. The office’s lengthy treatment of how the administration flouted a law intended to ensure that civil servants and political appointees operate free of political influence was meant to illustrate that the law lacks teeth and needs stronger enforcement mechanisms, the report says.

The political appointees who violated the law by blatantly promoting Trump’s reelection or disparaging rival Joe Biden in media interviews were Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette; senior counselor Kellyanne Conway; White House director of strategic communications Alyssah Farah; U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman; senior adviser Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law; press secretary Kayleigh McEnany; White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows; senior adviser Stephen Miller; deputy White House press secretary Brian Morgenstern; Marc Short, chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence; and national security adviser Robert O’Brien.

President Joe Biden welcomes NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks, praises team for achievements on and off

President Joe Biden welcomes NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks, praises team for achievements on and off the court

WASHINGTON -- The Milwaukee Bucks became the first NBA team to visit the White House in almost five years Monday, when they were honored for winning the 2021 NBA title, and said they were excited to restart what had previously been an annual tradition.

It's a tradition that had been placed on hold since the Cleveland Cavaliers were honored at the White House five years ago this Wednesday. That visit came shortly after former president Donald Trump had been elected, but while former president Barack Obama was still in office.

During Trump's tenure in the White House, NBA teams did not make the trip, as he sparred with players over his policies.

Biden also credited the Bucks for their decision last year to engage in a wildcat strike and not play in Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, highlighting the racial injustices they saw in Black communities.

"You took a stand for justice and peace in the wake of the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and you've gotten people engaged," Biden said.

Kyle Larson wins 2021 NASCAR title

NASCAR: Kyle Larson gets his 10th win of the season to win 2021 Cup Series title

Larson's championship comes in his first season at Hendrick Motorsports. He joined Hendrick ahead of the 2021 season after he was fired from Chip Ganassi Racing four races into the 2020 season for saying a racial slur during a virtual race. Larson was fired after his car's sponsors quickly disassociated themselves from the driver and he spent the rest of the season without a Cup Series ride.

Ted Cruz condemns Big Bird for advocating Covid vaccines for kids

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/nov/07/ted-cruz-condemns-big-bird-covid-vaccines

The Texas senator Ted Cruz led conservatives in condemnation of a prominent public figure for advocating Covid-19 vaccinations for children. Big Bird.

“I got the Covid-19 vaccine today!” the hulkingly benevolent yellow avian announced, using an appropriate communications platform, Twitter.

Cruz responded: “Government propaganda … for your 5 year old!”

He also tweeted: “Liberals are weird. They don’t care about open borders. Or rising inflation. Or schools covering up sexual assaults. Or the disaster of Afghanistan. Or tyrannical Dem(ocrat)s violating medical privacy and freedom.

“But criticise Big Bird? And they lose their sh(it).”
