Trump threatens 'great and overwhelming force' if Iran attacks 'anything American'

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Tuesday responded to disparaging comments from the Iranian president by threatening Tehran with "great and overwhelming force" if it attacks "anything American."

"Iran leadership doesn't understand the words 'nice' or 'compassion,' they never have," Trump tweeted. "Sadly, the thing they do understand is Strength and Power, and the USA is by far the most powerful Military Force in the world, with 1.5 Trillion Dollars invested over the last two years alone."

"Iran's very ignorant and insulting statement, put out today, only shows that they do not understand reality," Trump added. "Any attack by Iran on anything American will be met with great and overwhelming force. In some areas, overwhelming will mean obliteration. No more John Kerry & Obama!"

Trump on Monday told The Hill in an exclusive interview that he does not need congressional approval to strike Iran.

The comments differ from some congressional leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who have said the president must seek permission from Congress before carrying out a strike.

When coming in second changes your life. Short story of a broke golfer....until yesterday

Second is the best: Sucher resurrects career with 'life-changing' T-2 at Travelers

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/second-best-zack-sucher-resurrects-career-life-changing-t-2-travelers

Considering the amount of money PGA Tour pros play for – and the fact that they play golf for a living – casual observers don’t often associate Tour life and hard times. The assumption is that these guys are insulated from some of the real-life concerns of society at large. That’s because a lot of them are.

But not all of them. And not Sucher.

“We had seven months with no income at all coming in two years ago,” he said. “During that, we had to take out some credit cards.”

When it was time for a return to golf, Sucher was armed with six starts to make up 347 FedExCup points – no easy task for even a healthy, competitively sharp pro. And then there was the matter of the early-season Korn Ferry Tour schedule, when Sucher played events in Colombia and Panama. You can make a lot of money on Tour, and you can spend a lot, too. Players are responsible for their own travel and food and lodging, plus whatever arrangements they’ve worked out with their caddies.

Sucher hadn’t earned a check on Tour in over a year, but he had to go play. In a tweet Sunday night, he thanked his wife for sticking by his side and allowing him to "risk our house by taking out loans and maxing out credit cards to afford my travel expenses."

“I know that like two months ago we had credit card debt. So I know we don't have that anymore.”

Full NYT story on Iran pumpfake - Tucker Carlson....and the lawyer who gave the 150 count

Urged to Launch an Attack, Trump Listened to the Skeptics Who Said It Would Be a Costly Mistake

More at link
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/21/us/politics/trump-iran-strike.html

WASHINGTON — He heard from his generals and his diplomats. Lawmakers weighed in and so did his advisers. But among the voices that rang powerfully for President Trump was that of one of his favorite Fox News hosts: Tucker Carlson.

While national security advisers were urging a military strike against Iran, Mr. Carlson in recent days had told Mr. Trump that responding to Tehran’s provocations with force was crazy. The hawks did not have the president’s best interests at heart, he said. And if Mr. Trump got into a war with Iran, he could kiss his chances of re-election goodbye.

The full story of how Mr. Trump set in motion an attack on another country and then canceled it remained to some extent shrouded in mystery even to some of those involved, according to interviews with administration officials, military officers and lawmakers, many of whom asked not to be named. On the day after the aborted strike, multiple, seemingly conflicting accounts emerged and the White House made no effort to reconcile them, choosing to stay silent about the deliberations. A spokeswoman for Fox News declined to comment.

But an administration official informed about the discussions privately disputed that account. The 150-dead casualty estimate came not from a general but from a lawyer, according to the official. The estimate was developed by Pentagon lawyers drafting worst-case scenarios that, the official said, did not account for whether the strike was carried out during daytime, when more people might be present at the targets, or in the dark hours before sunrise, as the military planned.

BIG CHANGE in "state job" applications and wage calculation. Va. DU'ers LOOK INTO THIS

We got an email on Thursday from the Governor. Thy are doing away with that horrifically archaic application system and will now accept resumes. The DHRM application system is fraught with chances for errors, arduous as hell, and never let's you see what the finished product looks like.

The effort here is to recruit and retain people as employees of the Commonwealth- I used "state jobs" in the subject line for brevity and a bit of a joke.

LOOK INTO THIS whether you are young and want a safe productive long career OR if you are in the twilight of your working years. Trust me, you've never had a job like one of these. Professional protected (no not slack - after a year you will have RIGHTS you just don't find in the private sector) and a lot of options in terms of where to work. I got in before th pension plan closed but the benefits are out of this world (let's say hypothetically a family of three - less than $300 premium/month $600 deductible and $3K out of pocket max per year for HEALTH CARE). I wish I'd started working here YEEEEEARS ago.

LOOK INTO THIS

The new version will get rid of salary history, school name, age indicator, and other fields that have a potential for unconscious bias.

Applicants will also be able to select their preferred pronoun and be allowed to submit only a resume and personal information for consideration.

According to a release, this will also be the first time that a person seeking a state job will be able to use a mobile device to submit their application.

Under the revisions to the State Compensation Policy, provisions basing starting pay and future salary adjustments on previous or existing salaries will be eliminated.

All salary actions will also be based on three salary factors, experience, competencies for the position, and relevant credentials.

Finally, it aims to make sure that the salaries of state employees with comparable credentials who are doing comparable work are fairly aligned.

A Mysterious Glow Warms Rings of Uranus

https://www.space.com/uranus-rings-warm-glow.html

New heat images of the planet, obtained by two telescopes in Chile, reveal the temperature of the rings for the first time: minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 195 degrees Celsius), or the boiling temperature of liquid nitrogen.

While that sounds cold by Earthly standards, consider that most of space is much colder, approaching a temperature at which atoms stop moving. This point is called absolute zero, which is roughly minus 460 F (minus 273 C).

"We already know that the epsilon ring is a bit weird, because we don't see the smaller stuff," lead author and graduate student Edward Molter, who is also at the University of California, Berkeley, said in the same statement. "Something has been sweeping the smaller stuff out, or it's all glomming together. We just don't know. This is a step toward understanding [the rings'] composition and whether all of the rings came from the same source material or are different for each ring."

Another mystery is how Uranus and the other planets acquired their rings in the first place. Perhaps one or more moons got too close to the planet and broke apart, as is the probable fate of Mars' moon Phobos. Perhaps moons crashed into each other and broke into pieces, which could someday happen again at Jupiter, where the orbit of a newly found moon crosses the path of several other moons. Or perhaps the rings formed from captured asteroids that crumbled once they came under the influence of a planet's gravity. The rings could also have come from debris left over from the birth of the solar system, 4.5 billion years ago.

😆 Both Amazon AND Netflix have responded to the petition to cancel "Good Omens"

Both Netflix and Amazon have also responded to the petition, and of course, made promises neither could actually keep. “ok we promise not to make “Good Omens” any more,” the Netflix UK & Ireland account tweeted.

The Amazon Prime Video account also replied, saying, “Hey @netflix, we’ll cancel Stranger Things if you cancel Good Omens.”
