NBA commissioner Adam Silver says financial losses in China 'substantial' 'fairly dramatic '

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said Thursday that the league is already dealing with "fairly dramatic" financial consequences from Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey's support of Hong Kong's anti-government protesters.

"The losses have already been substantial," Silver said at the Time 100 Summit, in his first public comments about the NBA's relationship with China since he returned to the U.S. from China earlier this week. "Our games are not back on the air in China as we speak, and we'll see what happens next.

"I don't know where we go from here. The financial consequences have been and may continue to be fairly dramatic."

"We made clear that we were being asked to fire him, by the Chinese government, by the parties we dealt with, government and business," Silver said. "We said there's no chance that's happening. There's no chance we'll even discipline him."

Here's 1 hadn't heard "Is it too close to an election to impeach?"

Sen. Warner was on the local RW Radio with John Reid (former aid to Sen. George Allen) the host.

It was a friendly talk.

They discussed Syria. Sen. Warner at one point said “...the only person gaining from this is Vladimir Putin” which that radio audience doesn’t ever hear.

On Ukraine the host had to interject “Are we SURE this is a REAL whistleblower?”. Warner politely confirmed that it was and that many other people have come forward to confirm the report. Again something this radio audience doesn’t hear.

Then the host said something that must be ruminating in RW circles but I hadn’t heard “Is it too close to the election to impeach?”
Warner’s phone was choppy and I was pulling into a parking garage but he clearly turned that question around into an election security answer.

This reminds me of Moscow Mitch saying it’s too close to an election to hold a vote on Merrick Garland.

Tell me what I've missed here on the Kurds/Syria....PLEASE.

Let's breakdown the Kurds/Syria disaster
He is "spineless" in a phone call with Erdogan.
The pulls out US troops. The only thing holding Turkey back.
His spin is that it's only 50 troops..... then it's all of them.
Turkey rolls in.
He threatens Turkey to stop doing what EVERYONE knew would happen with sanctions.
There is no plan to move the 1,000 people. Moving 1,000 people takes planning.
Russia, Iran, and Syria are strengthened beyond repair.
The Kurds are fleeing and then there's the rape* and stoning.
Turns out we have nuclear warheads in Turkey. Not easy to move. Might have been "known" but never acknowledged.
Today Trump writes some sort of late night drunken text letter to Erdogan.

October 16, 2002 - W signed the War Resolution on Iraq

https://www.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/10/16/bush.resolution/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush signed a congressional resolution Wednesday authorizing him to go to war to disarm Iraq, saying Americans "will not live at the mercy of any foreign power or plot."

"Either the Iraqi regime will give up its weapons of mass destruction, or for the sake of peace, the United States will lead a global coalition to disarm that regime," he said at a White House ceremony Wednesday morning. "If any doubt our nation's resolve, our determination, they would be unwise to test it."

The White House says Iraq is stockpiling chemical and biological weapons in violation of U.N. resolutions ending the 1991 Persian Gulf War. It also accuses Iraq of resuming efforts to obtain nuclear weapons, and argues that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein could give weapons of mass destruction to terrorists.

🎀 Former Panthers RB (NFL) DeAngelo Williams covers 500 mammograms in late mom's honor

The retired football player has sponsored hundreds of breast cancer screenings in several states to honor his mother and aunts he lost to the disease.

Former Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams has been bucking cancer like he used to do defenders, sponsoring more than 500 mammograms in honor of his mother who died from breast cancer at the age of 53.

Williams, who played in college at Memphis and was drafted in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Panthers, started covering the cost for breast cancer screenings in 2015 through his nonprofit, The DeAngelo Williams Foundation.

He's the link

Now, his organization has covered the expenses of over 500 mammograms at hospitals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Memphis, Tennessee; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Charlotte, North Carolina, TODAY reports.

Williams' mother, Sandra Hill, died from breast cancer, and he also lost his four aunts to the disease before the age of 50.

Katrina - The ironic legacy of Shep Smith (yes another thread on that)

I'll never forget this one. I can't find the actual footage of this.

So it was basically the morning after Katrina blew through New Orleans. Shep Smith and someone from NBC we're about the only TV reporters who stuck around. As Smith was reporting you could see TV crews packing up if memory serves. He's standing in the middle of the street and says "as we stand here water is just rolling in towards us" it wasn't much but you could see water trickling in around him. Over the next few days it got worse and worse AND we saw the horrific conditions in the Superdome and the area.

He and the guy from NBC - can't find who it was - kept reporting on what was going on as everyone else wanted to move on to the next story. As Fox News tried to move on Smith kept at it. Fox wanted desperately to not show the failings of the W administration (and they quickly move to blaming the recently Republican black Mayor) but on and on it went.

W&Dick will forever bee stained by that mess and Shepard Smith was a big part of that.

Here is some footage with Geraldo rushing in to get some airtime.

Temperatures in Denver dropped 64 degrees in less than 24 hours, setting a record

I'll admit I didn't look for other threads on this

https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/10/us/denver-temperature-record-trnd/index.html

(CNN)Temperatures in Colorado plunged 64 degrees on Thursday, the largest temperature drop the state has ever seen in October.

It's also the 15th largest temperature drop over a two day period in Denver's history, according to the National Weather Service.
At the Denver airport alone, the temperature dropped 55 degrees. CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward said at 2 p.m. on Wednesday it was 79 degrees and on Thursday at 2 p.m. the temperature read 24 degrees.
The cold front moved in on Wednesday night bringing extremely gusty winds, snow, and the first freeze of the season.
