Anybody ever watch The Murdoch Mysteries?
Very enjoyable show to watch. It's set in Victorian-Era Toronto, Canada. The production values are incredible, even if the occasional anachronism appears on the show.
It's a fictional look at the early days of forensic investigation. The detective James Murdoch, is a devout Catholic and a man of science (imagine that!).
As progressive as we want our heroes to be from the modern perspective, Murdoch does show many of the prejudices of his time and the faith of its time. There's one episode in which a gay character is featured. Murdoch expresses disgust toward the man and calls him a 'sodomite'.
In most other respects, though, Murdoch is a likeable and admirable main character.
Fun show to watch.
Why is my Facebook friends recommendation list suddenly flooded with Trumpsters?
Am I being hacked? Everything about my page shows Im a staunch anti-Trump liberal Democrat.
World: I'm begging you, please: STOP TELLING MY PATIENTS THAT GATORADE IS A HEALTH DRINK!
I've got diabetes patients coming in with their A1C levels off the charts, they're dizzy, disoriented, fatigued, and sweaty. And I find out they are drinking tons of Gatorade a day because the TV says it's healthy, and smiling athletes are hawking for all they're worth.
Once I tell my patients to drop Gatorade, Powerade, soda, etc. etc, their A1C decreases rapidly back into safe territory.
I'm looking for a window to jump out of; it's a losing battle...
"Well, the pharmacist there does it for me all the time!"
I'm on call this weekend. Just got a call from a medical Karen demanding that I refill her son's ADHD medication, which is a controlled substance and can't be called in. It requires a printed prescription and presented in-person to the pharmacist. I informed her of this fact, and I got the huffy reply posted in the header.
I called the pharmacy to refill the two non-controlled medications she also requested, and then told her what the patient's mother had said.
"Yeah, we totally don't."
"I didn't think so."
It's going to be a long weekend. And not in the good way...
Friday Night Gin-And-Tonic Buzz. Ask me anything.
And before you ask, yes, I'm out of vodka...
Got a few more dribbles of wine.
But it's G&T tonight.
What a crazy week in clinic. I wouldn't have made it if it hadn't been for you guys...
I love you all...
Follow-up on prior authorizations for medication prescriptions:
As far as I'm concerned, the form for prior authorizations should come with a single check-box.
And that check-box should say: "BECAUSE I SAID SO!"
Health insurance companies are insanely greedy.
They're demanding prior authorization for medications so inexpensive, $4 will purchase a month's supply. OTOH, with my patient population, $4 might be a huge out-of-pocket hardship.
The way we bleed it out of the poor...
