What with vacation, maternity leave, and my supervising physician taking Fridays off, it's a busy day for me and the nurse practitioner at the main clinic.



Looking forward to a three-day weekend...

And I don't say that often enough...

I just had to fill out an insurance authorization for a patient who needs a new prosthesis for his below-the-knee amputation. The insurance company wants to know why they should have to pay for it.

There was a line on the form:

PROGNOSIS:

I wrote: "His leg isn't going to grow back."

They're just going to have to accept that as my answer.

Last couple of days, I've seen a huge increase in the amount of right-wing horseshit showing up in my Facebook and YouTube accounts. There was this anti-Disney rant in my newsfeed on Facebook this morning. "Disney's tryinna brainwarsh our kee-ids with woke stuff!", and shit like that.

My YouTube page is suddenly showing suggestions for videos from 'BlackConservativePerspective', survivalists, government-haters, and so on.

They're really trying to take over everything, aren't they? The only thing I can think of, other than the imminent reversal of Roe vs Wade is the budget surplus. We have hundreds of billions in surplus revenue, and President Biden no doubt wants to fund progressive programs with it, and the reich-wingers are coming unglued at the prospect.

Patient: "My back is still hurting."

Me: "At your last appointment, I wrote you a prescription for the pain, and referred you to physical therapy. Did you fill your prescription and make an appointment for a physical therapy consult?"

Patient: "Well, no..."

Me (in my head only) : "Did you think the pain would magically get better just by showing up to the clinic again?



It's a waste of clinic time...

This happens way more often that you would believe...

A lot of my homeless patients get their benefits checks from the state, and spring for a couple of days in a motel room. They get to sleep with a roof over their heads and behind a locked door. That always makes me happy.

The decreased work-load is nice, too.
