Beausoleil
Beausoleil's JournalDave Alvin - "On The Way Downtown"
Dave does a brilliant cover of this great Peter Case song.
Across the Borderline - Gaby Moreno Live from Here with Chris Thile
This is such a great song written by Ry Cooder, John Hiatt and Jim Dickinson.
This version will make you tear up.
"you got the whole damn thing all wrong"
I was a 16 year old junior in Catholic school when Aqualung came out and it quickly became my favorite album of my high school years. My first concert was Jethro Tull.
I haven't given it much thought over the years but I still love that album even though my musical tastes have changed a lot. I wondered whether it had a negative influence on me all those years ago, but I didn't realize how much it influenced me until I recently listened to it from start to finish and of course I was singing all of the lyrics.
I always thought Ian Anderson was an underrated genius and the band was at the top of its form. I loved their blend of blues, rock, jazz and folk.
As I listened to the final track I realize that Aqualung made me a better person.
Red Molly - 1952 Vincent Black Lightening
This has to be good because they got their name from the song.
There a lot of cover versions but I really like this one.
Carolina Chocolate Drops - Country Girl
Rhiannon Giddens is wonderful. The whole band is great.
Sierra Ferrell - Snakes Crawl at Night
The woman is amazing!
So creative and entertaining.
She does a more conventional country version but this is not your dad's Charley Pride song!
Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle - "Little Maggie"
Ok, to complete my little bluegrass triptych, here is a masterpiece:
Excellent solos, excellent duets. Love the mandolin player's "Dawg Music" t-shirt.
Sierra Ferrell - Don't Let Your Deal Go Down
I truly believe this girl can sing anything! At least to me. I love how she provides percussion at the end.
Interesting take on an old Flatt and Scruggs classic.
